If we had some blocking or maybe Bering Sea ridging then it’s possible we could see impacts, but we will be fighting the Pacific influence.

It is going to take a LOT to overcome the Pacific influences. The other thing too is it looks like the brunt of strongest influences from what may transpire with the PV will be more over Europe than our side of the Globe

Nobody is arguing that it won’t stretch or split. But the vibe coming from all this acts like a colonial winter is coming.

If there's anything we should've learned in recent years, it's that we can't fight the PAC. If it's a disaster, our winter here in the lowlands is a disaster.

My head is rarely ever into the preseason winter forecasting stuff, but if I were to hazard a guess I'd say December is a blowtorch, early January many will have canceled winter, and then we see a decent stretch mid to late January into at least half of Feb. We'll have plenty of storm chances with the juiced STJ, so we just need to time things right to produce something.

We have some cancelling now…it’s comical.  I mean, if that’s how one feels…then stay off the board until it’s time to gloat at the end of March.  If we end up under 20” for the season as a whole, than I will certainly give the rat callers their credit.  I have No issues doing that.

Honestly, no need to do that. The ones who cancel winter every year before it begins and tout warm this and snowless that absolutely disappear in spring when its time to own up on their massive fails- they just start touting how warm the next winter will be.

November is going to look a lot like October. Just shave off ~5 degrees on average. Instead of 60, it’ll be 55, etc

That’s actually not far above climo.  I think the normal high for BOS mid November is low 50s. It’s still mid 40s in the opening days of December.  Know thou climate.

Lol….when I read that a couple days ago, I thought the same.  Which was that’s pretty close to normal. Of course he was implying that his temps he mentioned were way above average, which they were not.

Wonder if anybody stopped and wondered what will happen when the PV strengthens December and January?

What was the point of his post?  Like ‘ever stopped and wondered what would happen if you gave Sydney Sweeney a zerbert?’

btw I’ll let you all know what happens as soon as I complete my fact finding mission.  Who gives a shit about the PV.

No but regardless what happens in the north, many of these videos are predicting doomsday snow and ice events in the deep south. Just seems a little over the top to me.

There are a few really cool click bait screen grabs though of the polar vortex swirling northeast of and over the Canadian  maritimes lol

It’s all BS. Don’t expect much here.

Can we make it three years in a row in coastal Carolina? First photo is Myrtle Beach SC second is a few miles away in Calbash NC right over the SC line in February, was back in East Hartland right after that for the blizzard. That second photo was a couple days after the storm where Ocean effect dumped 15 inches, needless to say plowing snow doesn’t happen there. The one of Myrtle was about six inches and that was all snow no mix. The year before we had almost 6 inches in Myrtle Beach.

hm   not aware of any teleconnectors for the latter half of November but from 7th to 16th or so, that's not really a cold pattern.

The teleconnectors for that earlier time range are indeed -AO/+PNA ...but this is one of those situations where the numerology is lying about the super synoptic aspects, and the actual mean spatial layout.    The +PNA is almost all being caused by strong neg anomalies NE of Hawaii...but the flow subtending down stream over the Conus is very zonal... so it's misleading to some degree.

As to the -AO...that's suspicious too.  The actual orientation of the heights/contouring show an annular structure about the AO domain, but the domain itself happens to have modest positive anomalies.  That's the problem with using strictly the geopotential anomalies to compute the orthogonal/eof derivatives, particularly when the heights everywhere are  about a coffee break from kicking off the super extinction event heh   seriously, it's closer to an annular flow type just happening to be above normal.
