I miss the days of sand, salt is terrible for the vehicles but more effective in treating the roads

I'm up in Alberta and interior BC at the moment and have noticed how all the secondary roads have a ton of sand on them. Doesn't appear that much salt is applied. Reminds me of central Maine 40+ years ago in college when the roads were ice and snow covered a good portion of the winter. I hate salt and all that pre-treatment crap they throw down - can only imagine what it is doing to the water table.

you'll see more snow but I don't consider it "winter" when it's late March or April regardless

2001, 2007, 2020, 2024 averaged 35" after the equinox.  Doesn't last nearly as long, but quite wintry.  Add 1982 for the most "wintry" April storm for the Northeast in the past century or longer.

beyond that it snows in October and May, but it's not winter...nothing close.  I guess late March/April can be "winter-like" in the mountains, that aside it's done

If (IF) there’s actually a super El Niño (region 3.4 over +2.0C), it’s very, very unlikely to be a cold winter. Snow is a different matter, since one major KU can skew the entire winter (i.e., 82-83, 15-16). 97-98 was a total dud for snow obviously

Pretty crazy how quick all the reservoir and ponds completely filled up here.  The water table is like just below the surface and everyone is running sump pumps like crazy around here.  I walk around New Havens reservoir all the time and its completely filled to the brim. Haven't seen that in many years.

We have also had a ton of rain here this month.

1997-1998 had some...doesn't matter...too much heat.

that was the worst winter ever for me i think we got a surprise snowstorm late in March otherwise there was no snow at all. I don't want to see that again, it was miserable! the snow wasn't even predicted it was supposed to sleet and rain but a surprise came in early am and we got 5 inches

I had one great event just before Xmas, but other than that it was a nightmare.
