I don't really know what my total was. At about 8am it was 13 or so inches, but the snow and wind continued, with the wind being relentless.  I tried measuring later but it did no good since most of the snow kept blowing and piling up where the wind blew it. I keep looking for updated public info statements but they all seem to be from this morning.

I have no idea how you even measure 4 inches or whatever an hour with these winds at an airport. That seems like an impossible task.

theres a few cocorahs in the town of Killingly, that will be out tomorrow morning. That will give you a good idea

I would still take 1978's storm over the incredible amounts from the 2015 blitz.  40-45" of snow in one storm vs 115" seasonal...I can't remember what I had before the blitz.  Skiing in May at Wachusett was amazing... so it is close.  That was epic but the power of 78 and the impacts it had on my life were higher.

I do wish I had pics etc from that storm.

I've always wondered this for MWN, how do you measure snowfall in 100mph+ winds?

Those Providence amounts almost resemble a good storm cycle at Mammoth Mtn Ski Resort.

hopefully they know how to take proper measurements in wind, becuase I don't.  I had spots that didnt have any more than an inch from the beginning of the storm through its end.  Tops of our cars had almost no snow on them for the entire storm.  No idea how you measure and account for that kind of stuff.  I fear that some of those readings tomorrow will say 8 or 10 inches, which is probably not a good representation of what really happened.

Well, she doesn't have a weather background. It's possible she stopped doing that but I'm fairly certain at one time she said she did wipe the board every hour. I'm not sure, I don't know who does their measurements or where they're done. It could be that the wind made the measurement inaccurate.

Kinda how i felt in Jan 2005. It didn't make sense, where did all the snow go? the woods? somewhere else? It looked like 6-8", with bare grass and a max snow drift of 18". Reports around me were 15-19" and everywhere reported over 12" in every direction. So how could i have a foot or more when the maximum drift was 1.5 feet and the min was 0 in many spots. Didn't add up. 

This time drifting wasnt nearly as bad due to the consistency of the snow, when its pure powder fuhgetaboutit. This was relatively uniform, especially for the winds.

This was a rare shot not only to experience a 3 foot+ event, which I had never done, but with an antecedent pack of over foot.

I hear ya.  You recognized it earlier than most.  The GFS ticking east after being so steady, started the red flag waving.  Just wasn't 'that storm'.  'That much' in this case, was a mere 75 miles open ocean...

When you see what PVD and SE MA pulled off, it definitely pulls on the heart strings a bit . But I’ve seen a 36” with NEMO and still that wasn’t the jack in that one . All I know is this has been a winter I did not predict, was wrong about and will take to my grave as a top 5. And if these next few events work out. May go top 3

Agreed, I gave up. I don't think it's actually possible in my environment to take proper measurements with drifting and plowing and walls and fences and houses in close proximity. I tried to go into the cemetery to take measurements. Half the snow had blown hundreds of yards away through a chain link fence making 6 foot drifts and burying cars.

I also don't give a shit. I don't believe the measurements from the 2022 blizzard here and for me, even if this was actually the same or less, it just wasn't. The snow is so heavy and caked. That was powder.

Yeah its up there. I'm sure 14-15 has gotta be #1 for you or close, maybe 10-11 and 95-96 as well.
