Yeah it's kind of interesting that the overall dry/minor drought thing has persisted from the summer, fall, and right into winter even with the various large-scale pattern changes. Usually it tends to snap back at some point.....

I know. I texted you the exact same thoughts a few days ago. You must have not seen it. It's unbelievable! Even in bad winters we get 10 inches alone from nickel and dime events. 2011/2012, 2012/2013 are a couple examples with plenty small events. I do believe we get 1 or 2 more moderate events but the lack of more frequent lighter snows will probably be the deciding factor in getting to average.

Well, that would be the second-largest event of the winter here.

What's the snow depth out there?  Heading out there this weekend to do some sledding at Blackwater.

Close to a foot and a half.

I'd be surprised if we got less than 6" from the clipper on Friday/Friday night.

at the time you said that I was thinking..."one of these upcoming weak arse waves will probably get us at least an inch" but I was wrong it looks like.  I just thought...no way we go 2 weeks this cold and don't get any snow at all but that looks likely now.  You were right!  Even going back before my time up here using the local coop data...looking at past 10+ day periods of consistent cold like this we always saw at least some days with minor snow accumulations... multiple days with like .5, .8, 1.1 things like that...I can't find a single stretch with below freezing temps like this and zero snowfall for 10 days.

Taking the kids skiing this weekend...right now leaning towards Snowshoe. 

Has to be an Ikon pass resort and the New England options look too brutally cold this weekend for the little ones.  And the PA options (blue and camelback) are too dangerous.  

BTW....sidebar... I know its probably because its so close to NYC and NJ but my god those pocono resorts....I won't go anymore... they don't even attempt to stop aggressive out of control dangerous skiers.  One almost ran over my 7 year old going full speed straight down the slow skiing beginner run and when I yelled slow down gave me the finger and yelled F you...a ski patroller was 50 feet away and I went to him and he said "what do you want me to do"....how about your fucking job!  They don't see to care.  Maybe, unfortunately, someone needs to get seriously hurt and the mountain get sued...I know they have some liability protection but not if it can be proven they were guilty of neglect.

What has impressed me about this recent cold/storm combination is how long one storm's snowfall has remained on the ground. Can't remember the last time one storm with no help lasted over a week. Even last year we had a couple events that built up the snow pack to last long.
