What’s the deal with the radar in central Suffolk. Not much showing up but I went outside and had heavy sleet

After dropping a quick degree to 23.2 the temperature is back up to 23.6 with sleet getting a little heavier.

The heavier stuff has been slow to come into Suffolk, maybe some subsidence east of the band over the city but looks to be poking east more.

I just noticed that there were 8 consecutive heavy snows obs at Sussex Airport this afternoon and evening. All at 7F. That's awesome. Doesn't happen often. 10 consecutive at Danbury, which is maybe even more impressive. Wow.

Poughkeepsie with 8 consecutive heavy snow obs and counting. The preceding 3 were moderate snow with 2 at 0.25mi vis. I've never seen that before... even in 1993 and 1996.

12” at Islip, even 11” at Oceanside right on the south shore. Definitely a high end event for LI even without it being all snow.

I’m at an even foot here in garden city south. Had 10 inches of snow and at least 2 inches of sleet since 230pm when in flipped. Very hard to measure as I’m sure some compacted but 12 inches in Nassau south of the LIE is a win

Definitely overperformed expectations, really only was pure sleet for about an hour here, the rest has a mix of snow/sleet since the changeover.

Did the NAM have the entire island at a foot plus...i know i know, its not really a weather model. But it really did suck ass. 

Even the Euro will bust low. RGEM and HRRR for the win. I cant believe Islip will be over a foot.

Best forecast for almost all NY Metro was 10" - 15", with frankly a gradual increase from S to N, no huge cutoff, as for those who stayed all snow looks as ratios came down some. Places in C NJ have 10" - 12", NYC 11", NE NJ 11" - 14", NW NJ 12" - 15"

I'm 12 miles from KDXR and I can confirm, it's been absolutely hammering here since about 9am. I'm over 20" now.

The bronx and upper manhattan are between 12 to 14 inches as of now. 8-12 became 12-14 up here,still going too.

Seems like Long Island had best banding from 11am-2pm and got the snow it needed then to get close to a foot before the sleet. I think well see higher finals in NNJ and SNY close to 20 when all reporting is in, but not a huge disparity in the immediate metro area as the sleet line may have sugested

In fairness the Pivotal snow maps aren’t supposed to count sleet as snow. RRFS might count sleet so if that’s true it was a win.

Staten Island cleaned up 12.5 inches back home, and 12.5 inches by my parents in Nassau county. South shores did very well. Wonder if that ocean enhancement was the reason
