I thought I would create this thread to give people a break from the doom and gloomy mess that the LR thread is. At least we have a chance to get on the board for January until the good pattern later that month. It's something to track so who cares. FWIW 18z HRRR and 12z FV3 are on board with something. 18z NAM not as much but still there.
Edit: You can also include tonight's possible dusting in here as well. 100% for it.

That's more than okay with me. NAM and HRRR have snow falling but whether it actually hits the ground is questionable,

Mount Holly's take for tonight. Pretty much ditto for tomorrow night for here, with a solid dusting to an inch or 2 possible up into east central/NE PA.

Skies will be mainly clear early, however will see a thickening and lowering in cloud cover after midnight as a strong, quick- moving shortwave approaches. This wave will be lacking moisture in the low levels as it treks east but may remain strong enough in the mid levels to overcome the dry air in place over the Mid- Atlantic. So, while there may be a slight chance (~20%) of snow showers near the I-95 corridor, have opted to at least include the mention of flurries areawide during the 4 AM to 10 AM timeframe on Wednesday. Outside of a light dusting in isolated areas, no accumulation is expected. Lows will be in the low to mid 20s with wind chills in the teens for the majority of the area, with mid to upper teens and wind chills in the single digits in the higher terrain.

HH has started (continuing) here.  Currently making homemade ravioli — pasta dough is resting and making the filling now.  Happy New Years Eve Eve!

That's quite a narrow band, but it's going right across my house. I'll take it.

Good luck. Other than a couple of quick pinches with the needles, you'll feel nothing. I say this confidently having had it done a few times and coming from a family of dentists.

I plan to hike Dolly Sods or Blackwater falls the 2nd of Jan. Does anyone know the best (aka most plowed) way to get into those areas? I have a 2011 Honda CRV which has good all wheel drive but low clearance (7in) so I probably shouldn't try driving it on 10 inches of fresh snow.

Hope the dental surgery goes very well with a quick recovery. Have the doc give you some nitrous oxide, that will really help you and the appointment will go by quickly.

I have much experience backpacking in Dolly Sods over Christmas as it was an annual thing for my wife and I for quite a few years.  You will likely have the entire place to yourself this time of year.   

You have to park at the Laneville parking lot unless you have a 4wd vehicle with snow chains (assuming there is snow which there likely is!).  The state does not maintain the primary road that leads up to the sods themselves during winter so it won't be plowed. But Laneville is easily accessible.  

 

The issue there is that Laneville is at the lower end of the Red River so you have to hike all the way up the red river falls trail to get onto the sods proper.  With a foot of snow on the ground this is likely more than you can do easily in one day with the short daylight we have now.   However red river falls trail is very scenic with some river crossings (probably iced over now) and has tons of gorgeous rhododendron as you gain in elevation.  We would generally start from Laneville and snowshoe backpack up to the top of red river falls trail and then camp wherever we could find a flat spot for the tent before dark (gets dark early in the mountains).  Then the second day we would snowshoe up on the sods and camp up there the second and third nights.  Then come back down the fourth day.  

It's really epic winter camping but not to be taken lightly when there's significant snow - expect it to be very cold and very windy.

Best of luck with that. I had my 6 month today, squeezing it in before EOY.
