OrdIowPitMsp Posted yesterday at 01:20 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:20 PM -4F here. Maybe we’ll drop another degree or two. Bit of an underwhelming cold snap, our average first subzero low is December 10th so it did arrive early this year.
hawkeye_wx Posted yesterday at 01:23 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:23 PM Got down to -8º here, with some -teens across northern Iowa. Models are amping up the weekend clipper. The latest Euro is fairly robust.
madwx Posted yesterday at 01:31 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:31 PM -7 at the house. Got a -14 on the car thermometer at the local low spot. Winter is here, glad it matches the time of year I’m most excited for it

Frog Town
Until we get the mean trough to set up just up just to our west, we will have a repeat of last year....CAD with dusters here and there, always on the verge of a warm up. Hope that thing can dump just to our west but we need the PNA to cooperate.
roardog
Chicago snow futility is already off the table for this season and it's only Dec. 4th. It just won't be the same here this winter without that thread. lol 2

I was told there was less winter here! 5 inches Monday night, and now embedded in one of the more severe cold snaps I've experienced since 2018, It's been some time since I've experienced more than a week when highs barely touched freezing. haha you should've been here last January, we had almost a foot in a 24hr span. mannynyc
Also got down to -8 here in Grinnell. Snowpack helps. Like the trends for the clipper.
nvck
only got down to 14 here, but winds stayed between 6-10mph all night. yesterday's freezing rain/drizzle event left a nice coating of ice on the roads and sidewalks, and the snow now has a nice crust of ice on it as well. Fire Up Chips! I initially started there for Meteorology but after one semester, it wasn't for me long-term. I ended up graduating with a degree in GIS tho which has a lot of overlap with the MET group.

Iowa is rarely the hot spot because of no lake help of any kind. They can get a good storm though.

There aren't grass tips here. But if there were. Any snow during the Christmas season enhances the mood. Also the cold glistening type of snow is more typical of mid winter than early December.
