1989 I think

It might have been 1989.  I had just bought my fixer-upper house up here but lived in Boston.  I had something called a Climate talker.  It was hooked up to my phone line and I could call long distance and get the outside temperature.  I believe it was below zero about 12 nights in that December.  When winters used to be real.

He's already melting down and we're one week after Thanksgiving.

If Taunton gets a 6"+ snow event prior to Xmas even in a coldish December, that's a win. My guess is there's a reasonable shot of that happening this year given the pattern outlook.

I don't blame Brett totally though....his formative snow weenie years were very prolific in December even in SE MA. The 2000s were ridiculous relative to climo across SNE, but especially in SE MA in December.

Our generation was hard-wired into being cynical about snow given what we had to deal with in our formative years.

It was more or less a novelty until 1995. Sure one here or there but even in 92 we got somewhat hosed. He will never know the crushing depression I had from that event.

I do remember an event (maybe 89?) where I went to Edaville and they had several inches more than I did. I was annoyed lol.

Gonna have to dig into the archives to find the last time we had lows in the single digits the first week of December.

Days of Yore. My sister who's a school teacher in MetroWest sent me this. According to the kids it was the "best recess EVAH!"

He doesn’t understand…as Will said, he was molded by a crazy 10-15 years of prolific snows.  Now he believes that that’s how it is supposed to be. It wasn’t. He thinks this is bad…he’d have already off’d himself if this was winter of ‘85-‘92.

Models did good with the cold here, at least so far. Below zero now with the whole night to go. Still working with a light wind so WC is even lower. WXW1 is at 24 and falling. Will easily top coldest of the year there.

Whiteface is -13 WC -48 according to BTV.

Ya dropping like a rock now…22 and plummeting here.  Enjoy the brutality there tonight…I’ve experienced many of them in Northern Maine…it’s impressive.  Looks like a good pattern setting in…

You talking about Sunday bc that storm doesn’t cut it transfers south of Long Island and bombs east of Cape Cod?

Yeah...I think someone east would have a chance to pull off a warning criteria snow. ORH bufkit looked pretty solid...solid lift into DGZ and ratios upwards of 18:1.

My place over in Franklin Falls is at -7F already. That’s Whiteface glowing under the cold moon. IMG_7208.thumb.png.23adfb571d66de6c2d851f330702af2d.png

yup...ultimately I think the GFS will end up a bit on the overdone side but I think we'll see the underdone guidance come up some.

Well we aren’t 6-8 days out here with this…so this is pretty close in now…it’s like 3 days away, that’s what I like seeing. Be very interesting to see what 0z does.

89 for where? TAN had 3 single digit lows the first week of Dec 2002. CON did multiple single digits mins in mid Nov 2019. That Nov 2018 airmass was pretty brutal too. They had 17/6 on 11/22.

I remember Dec 89 being really cold, hoped for a great winter, didn't happen. I was in Central Mass at the time.
