AFD’s are issued regardless of the weather. Have you read one? They used to be issued every 6 hours or so and more often when weather warranted it. That no longer seems to be the case.

The storm isn’t severe, but it’s still nice to get the latest thoughts about it from professionals. Changes in winds, qpf, etc…

AFD’s also contain latest marine and aviation discussions, which matter to those who need them, even if it’s not me. There could be 50-75 mph gusts out over open waters…

But this is why you come here…there are plenty of pros here…and great discussion.

If this was mid December onwards, with cold in place…the AFD’s would be out there as you stated.  This will not affect any travel on land here in SNE, so that’s why there isn’t a whole lot more on it.  It’s not that big of a deal period.

We can agree to disagree. It has less to do with this storm and more to do with receiving a service we used to get regardless of the weather. I enjoy reading the AFD, maybe I’m the only one.

Back in the day AFDs for me were one of the main conduits of learning for me. The Walt Drag AFDs and others really helped my understanding of atmospheric processes. I think times have out changed now and the days of weenie AFDs are virtually gone. Expect maybe for more extreme events.

Ya, it’s fun I agree. But I wouldn’t read it for a mundane deal like this, but that’s just me. Now if we were on tap for 6-12, or  12-18, with wind…,we’d all be reading, and they, the the NWS, world have the AFD out when it needed to be.  Don’t you worry…it’ll be there when it’s something of genuine consequence.

But I get the joy of reading it when it’s something siggy.

Evidently going to be a pretty meh storm given the lack of posts in here; .48” so far here in E CT

Could keep coming. Maybe not near us, but RI, Cape, Islands could get soggy.  Looking at radar could get soggy near us.

I'd rather hear from the national weather service. Many talented posters on here . Although some buffoon said it wasn't even going to rain. "gonna stay south, can't come north because of the high, we see it all the time, toss the models..."

Even here at Winni it’s breezy with gusts maybe 25mph or so.

The wind is dead in the valley right now, very light breeze and some light rain showers.    I bet there will be some pretty good gusts inside of I-495 tonight.  Assuming it picks up a little here later on tonight.

Well, you will hear from NWS when it’s something significant…this isn’t a big deal though. And Gotta know how to wade through the nonsense, and gleam the real truth here, you know that. You know the posts that are legit, and the ones that aren’t.

What?  They issue AFDs like 4 times a day or used to?

You hear from the NWS when it’s partly cloudy or when it’s a big deal.  That is/was the value of it.

I read the man updates almost daily and I bet many on here do too.

Yeah sad to see the changes.

Descriptive and knowledgeable AFDs are the best part of the NWS (or were).

Ya, just responding to the guy who said they didn’t update the AFD…so who knows.
