One of my best/fav events was an Oct. 15th? event in 2009, 2-3" accumulations in a very tiny portion of SNH above 400' Hudson/Windham. I got 8" in that storm. I remember going down to town and it was just drizzling when I drove home gradually snow appeared and then about a quarter of a mile from the house everything was covered as I came around the last bend.

So now +5 is a "furnace"? First (light) frost this morning, low of 30. Our 28-year average for first frost is . . . today. (Though recent years have averaged later.) Will salvage cherry tomatoes and peppers today, as we'll likely dip into the 20s tonight. Covered the peppers last night as they're only 1-2 feet tall. All the remaining 'maters are 4-5 feet off the ground so safe from light frosts.

powderfreak
BTV upgraded to a freeze warning for tonight with upper 20s. Seeing as we got to 32F last night, does tonight end the growing season? I'd think if we get to 28F or so that'll lead to a much harder and widespread frost/freeze.

Funny, sort of, that I read that just now, right after reading the SWS for here. I was not online yesterday, so: Special Weather Statement National Weather Service Boston/Norton MA 610 PM EDT Fri Sep 19 2025 ...ELEVATED RISK FOR FIRE SPREAD AGAIN SATURDAY... A prolonged period of dry weather and dry fuels will result in elevated fire weather conditions later Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon. Although winds will be rather light from the north at 5-10 mph with a few 20+ mph gusts confined to mainly to the Cape and Islands...the relative humidity will be lower than what we observed today. Minimum relative humidity values will drop to between 25 and 40 percent along and northwest of I-95 and between 40 and 55 percent towards the Cape and Islands. Exercise caution handling any potential ignition sources, including machinery, cigarettes, and matches. Any fires that ignite will have potential to spread quickly. This forecast considers meteorological, fuel, and land conditions and has been developed in coordination with state fire and land management officials. $$ Frank

tamarack
"Early Corner" in New Sharon, along US Rt 2 about 1/2 mile west from the Sandy River bridge. The soil there is somewhat poorly drained, almost a forested wetland, which causes the early change. It's about a week earlier than average, probably due to drought, though the 5 mornings in the 30s last week might've helped. This morning's 30 and tomorrow's frost/freeze will push the changes along, though there's an abnormal amount of leaf drop already, in that area and all over, especially ash, birch and red maple.

Less pressure on ground water supplies, though I’m not sure if that would actually help all that much.

SouthCoastMA
an extended late summer and early fall right into Mowvember is what I hope for, followed by 2-3 months of cold and snow. In reality we'll get 7 months of April
