Temps hit mid-upper 80's along the shore with W winds today. Awesome summer day.

Almost 40 degree temp rise today to 77 from the morning low of 38.  The ground fog/very shallow inversion mixed out just after sunrise skyrocketing temps 15 degrees in a little over an hour.

An unusual day today in that high temps in Michigan ranged from the 80s in the western U.P. to the 50s in southeast MI.

84F at Duluth. I think the bigger shocker is the record high for today was an insane 92F (see below). Many places way further south have never recorded such a high temperature this early in the year. The earliest 92F reading at Dayton, Ohio occurred on May 9, 1896. Since 1962, the earliest 92F reading was on May 28, 2012.

Sometimes you can get these very warm temps in northern areas this time of year easier than in the summer because of the still limited foliage.

FYI. For those not trolling, this is a time to really not pay attention to the GFS. Skill scores are some of the lowest I’ve ever seen for anything mid to long range

A RECORD RAINFALL OF 1.16 INCHES WAS SET AT DAYTON OH YESTERDAY, 
TUESDAY, MAY 6, 2025. THIS BREAKS THE OLD DAILY SITE RECORD OF 0.91 
INCHES SET IN 1971.

Only in the middle of the 1st week of May, but already have 3" of rain for the month already. No way May's going to be drier than normal by the time the month is over. Keep the stretch of wetter-than-normal months coming over the next several months, especially with some of the near-biblical rains, and we can forget having a summer this year.

Does this bleed over into other NCEP models as well? NAM, CFS, RAP? If so, going to make forecasting the rest of chase season a b****.
