Why would you turn the heat on in the house are you people crazy. At least today there should be enough residual heat from the previous days in your homes where you don't need heating.

Today yes but after a night of rain and wind and all day tomorrow- may need it.

the wind.....

heat needs to be on for any temperature below 60 and no sun

it should be mandatory by New York law

depends on the type of structure too-older houses with an exposure to wind-forget it-the heat gets sucked out quick.   Apartment buildings or newer houses different story

my condo turns the heat off may 5th every year. its brick in here rn. dreaming of san diego now. this is absurdity

Cook something.

Putting something in the oven does a remarkably good job of heating up a house, especially if it's something like a condo.

RGEM east with the big rains over RI, NAMS and Euro west over CT/LI/NYC

18z GEMLAM still pretty decent for our area. RGEM was east at 12z as well.

But NAMS got heavier and more west compared to 12z.

Tonight and tomorrow will be rainy and exceptionally cool for this time of year. A storm total 0.50"-1.50" rainfall is likely into Friday morning.

Temperatures will top out in the lower to middle 50s in New York City tomorrow. Tomorrow's record low maximum temperature is 54° from 1894. That mark could be challenged. The below normal temperatures could persist into early next week. However,it could turn noticeably warmer during the closing days of the month or opening of June.

Showers could persist into Friday. It is likely that New York City will see the mercury dip below 50° on Thursday night and Friday morning.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was 0.0°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +0.1°C for the week centered around May 7. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +0.55°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged -0.07°C. Neutral ENSO conditions will likely continue through at least mid summer.

Early indications are that summer 2025 will be warmer than normal in the New York City and Philadelphia areas. The potential exists for a much warmer than normal summer (more than 1° above normal).

The SOI was -3.58 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was -0.328 today.

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 50% probability that New York City will have a warmer than normal May (1991-2020 normal). May will likely finish with a mean temperature near 63.2° (normal).

I mean if you want the house at 60, be my guest lol.  I'd rather deal with 85 in the house than 60, so heat is on until whenever it has to be.

Yup, bedroom is 65.  I prefer 70 with the ceiling fan on low.  Heats going on.

2nd floor thermostat is reading 62. I refuse to turn heat on. Told the wife she could close the windows however.

Upstairs and down currently reading 65 and 64 respectfully.  Did turn the heat on for about 30 minutes this morning only because we left a few windows open a bit overnight and it was chilly.  Gotta let the cool air in!   Bedroom windows open about an inch.  That's what blankets and flannel sheets are for.

Had the windows open this morning. Got down to 63 and it's back up to 70 without the heat on.

I like to sleep at 62, would go lower but my wife won't let me
