Trying not to be upset about our winters anymore...but I swear everytime I see a tweet about the frickin' long Nina still going strong...it's dang depressing, I'm telling ya. It kinda dampens whatever great mood I'm in, and I hate that it has that much power. Ya know I read something the other day about Ninas potentially becoming more prevalent? (Just a theory, but still). And thinking about last winter looking just like the last two is crap. But maybe just not tracking will make it a bit better.

I know it's just June but my brain keeps going to next winter imagining what's gonna happen.

Ya wish it were different, nut...I have control over it. Ya just wish it were different...but it ain't. It's not right, but  And I don't travel great right now...but eventually when I'm in a better life position I may just have to take the advice and make a trip north (or heck, drive down to s/se Maryland in January) to see some good snow. Meanwhile, just gotta find a way to suck it up and not dwell on it (not easy to do, lol)

Maybe try kicking back with some Nina Simone

It wasn’t though, for some yards it wasn’t great last winter but most of those yards did decently well 2 winters ago (I think at least, lots of ice events in the lowlands so I would assume they got some snow). You also keep blaming the Nina but I think your real problem is with our base climo, we just don’t snow a lot unless you go into the mountains. To further that point even with the Nina we almost got several good events and some people did! Our issue was blocking, not the pacific side, if we had blocking a lot of those costal scrappers would have been hits.

In Ninas we're always "almost" getting good things. But we're always too far north/wrong side of the bay. And the same people (the south and east part of the forum) get good events in ninas.

And yes, has my yard had some bad fortune? Yes. A couple times a few ticks north and it's 6+...so maybe I am a bit sour. Even so...to go this long without one that Central MD can cash in on is kinda bad.

I do agree that we've got unlucky with blocking and temperatures the last two years...2020-21 good blocking bad temps, last winter good temps no blocking, smh

And to your point about base climo...When was the last time we went 7 years without a warning event? Last 30 years that has not happened. You'd have your poor years then a boom year (a year where you get something 6+ inches, or a foot) a couple more lean years, a boom, etc...But the last in the last 7 not one that produced more than a few inches at a time. My idea of our base climo is the last 30 years. You got a good one every 3-4 years...I'm used to that.

These last 7 have broken the pattern big time--and included more ninas than any 7-year stretch we've had since the 70s (those who were around know how mediocre those years were)That's worse than our base climo!

Biked Reston to Purcellville and back this morning. The wooded sections of the WO&D west of leesburg were trashed with tree debris presumably from this weeks storms.

They made a post on FB yesterday that the section of trail between Leesburg and Ivermere Dr had 50 fallen trees and took 24 hours to fully reopen the trail after Thursdays storms.  Supposedly some of the worst damage ever recorded.

Thanks for sharing. I looked on their instagram feed and didn’t see anything. Not surprised at the 50 tree number based on what I observed.

Great. Corona, monkeypox, aliens and now rabid Wil E Coyote

We live in a post apocalyptic hellscape that plays like an Xbox game. Just need zombies next. But we might already have them. Teens on Tik Tok are coming for our brains because theirs have rotted away.

My husband has Covid. Kid and I testing negative. He’s on paxlovid so hoping he is okay and we stay negative. Weeeeeeeeeeeee

I'll be curious to hear how your hubby fares using the paxlovid.  If you don't mind me asking, is he vaxed?  My 91 year old father is unvaxed and if he catches covid, I'm worried his only hope is paxlovid, though, of course, he wants ivermectin.

The new normal sucks.

He is vaxxed and boosted. So far it’s very mild, loss of smell/taste, some congestion and mild body aches. No fever. He’s still asleep so will see how he feels compared to yesterday and two doses of the meds.

Get well soon Maphubs! I haven’t known anyone yet with mild symptoms to get paxlovid so I’m interested to hear how it goes.

Thanks friend. He has some other underlying conditions so was good for him to take it and help limit severity

Good luck Mappy.  Hope your hubby has a quick recovery.

I tested positive last Dec 20th with only mild symptoms.  Was 2 days after my 60th birthday, which allowed the doctor to prescribe me to receive the antibody infusion.  This was before Paxlovid was available (I think).  Was one of 26 people in FFCO who received the infusion that day and only got it because I was 60+.  Within a few hours I could tell it was working and within 3 days I was asymptomatic.  Was pretty amazing - in a good way.  I was vax'ed, which likely helped reduce the severity.  However, getting the antibody infusion reset the clock to get boosted.

Best of luck...

Euro remains insistent that Saturday is a dud.  GFS clears out the rain early in the day.

We have swim team time trials starting at 9:00 am on Saturday, so it looks like we’ll be swimming in the rain as long as there’s no thunder.

Wouldn’t mind this thing being a dud since I’ve had over 2” of rain in the last two weeks, but I understand that others who are suffering from the drought would like some steady rains.

The drought is real.  Thoughts and prayers to them.

I'm def not looking forward to our time trials in the rain buuuuuut I'll take that over 90+.  Mainly the hassle will be having to put up a lot of tents to try and keep most of us from getting drenched.  It won't matter to me.  I'll get soaked just from having to run around with time cards and all that.

Sorry to hear that!  My daughter tested positive on Sunday, but is fine now.  She is able to go back to school Friday, but will also have to go back next week to catch up/practice for a presentation she has for SkillsUSA.  Her team won the gold medal in billboard design for the state of Maryland and is going to the National competition in Atlanta the week of 6/20.

Is it wrong to be tailgating in the Columbia Mall parking garage prior to seeing Top Gun in IMAX? Judge if you must, but hell of lot cheaper than walking into Cheesecake Factory for 2 $10 beer pours of straight sewage.

Hoping it’s just some showers on Saturday, but we’re still planning to put up canopies so the time cards can actually be written on and are legible.

My main concern now is just the kids staying warm. I probably should t worry, but I’m a softie.
