I'm seldom in the regional jack zone, but I just assumed that it is statistically unlikely to be in it for any one place for a given storm.   February 2003, January 2005, Feb 2006, Dec 2009, late Feb 2010, January 2015, and January 2016 all come to mind as notable storms where we weren't close to local jackpots.

Notable storms where we were in the jackpot zone include 3/15/99, 1/27/2004 and 2/14/2104.  There are many others among smaller snowfalls.

There were a couple of notable storms where we were reasonably close, including February 2013 which was a real good one to be reasonably close to.

I shouldve said NW suffolk usually always does better than 75-80% of the rest of the island. Jackpot not always  but usually has the higher totals

Fair play.  When you average them out, we do quite well.  Just not as flashy as some people think.

1999 is an interesting analog, another one where we had a snowy January and a snowy March.

I noticed that my area is usually in or near the jackpot if we have a big storm during a strong El Nino otherwise we are the snowhole of Long Island

Didnt one of those storms in the 03-04 winter have an 80:1 ratio at LGA and 40:1 over the rest of the area?  Temps were in the single digits and we got about 10-11 inches of snow.

I would have loved to stay up all  night but there's not much to see when it's pitch black outside lol.

I did stay awake from 3-6 and that was enough for me.  Slept 11-3 and then 6-9.

yes that was measured at 10-11 inches in the Rockaways and Western Long Island, ended just after sunrise on the 15th and a last heavy blitz of snow came down as the sun was rising and the color of the sunrise made the snow look pink!

It was absolutely amazing..... the only other time I saw pink snow was at sunset during January 2009.

Thanks so much Don is this the final report?  I saw some of the Nassau County reports (East Rockaway, for example) weren't updated after 7 am.

Also, I was actually looking for the final report on the January 2004 storm that had the high ratios.  I wonder where old storm reports are filed away?

The final accumulation for my area was 7.5 inches..not bad for most of the bronx honestly..7 is the average..def more then the forecasted 3-5 ..

That map severely underdone for Nassau County. Sorry, most of the county has more than 6”. Also CT had many spots over 6”…I guess the map shows the areas that got the most, but the amounts are way underdone

January 1999 was meh.  There was some very cold low level air around at the beginning of the month, not much snow, and mostly rain or ice.  The most interesting thing that happened all month was a localized OES band on a northeast wind off LIS that persisted for hours and deposited at least 6 inches of pure fluff in the Sands Point / Port Washington area.  No place else was effected. 

There was a big ocean storm in late February 1999 that backed in enough to drop snow ranging from 13" at Montauk to almost nothing in Nassau County.
