Question about weather station placement. Got a Davis system with an aspirated fan. Gonna put it on a wooden post 6 feet above the ground. But was going to mulch around the base of it. I don’t want to affect the dew point or temperature at all. (Certainly don’t want the mulch bed dew point talk ). Will that be ok? Thoughts?

Pavement is the only way to go, obviously.

MA Covid numbers have been much better the last week or so.  Below 2% positive.   Hopefully that spike was short lived.
Im hoping to be able to work with my students in person at least part time of this keeps up.  Still can’t do labs though.

I'm happy Mass schools open a month after many schools down south so we can see what happens. North Paulding (where the now famous picture of the hallway came from) is closed again today since they have now had 35 test positive after 4 days of  classes on a reduced schedule. It's another BioGen in the making.

I put mine on a post, but just keep grass under it. All I did was reseed a bit around where I dug. Mulch could locally cause some slight warming on a calm day.

We need...a Shrubbery!!

Does it matter what type of surface is underneath my weather station?

Yes, the surface type affects the temperature measured at your station. Generally speaking, black surfaces (asphalt, black shingles) measure warmer temperatures than lighter colored surfaces (gravel, grey shingles). Ideally, your weather station should be placed 5 feet over short grass or low shrubs.

I’m a Residential Design Specialist.  New construction, renovations and additions.  Slammed, working around 70-80hrs a week between main job and side job.  That’s what I’m hearing too on materials.  Limited supplies and prices are outrageous.

New house construction springing up all around here.

Random question but would your bank be the appropriate institution to contact to schedule like financial consulting/advisor (if that's the proper terms). Or what would be an appropriate party to contact? Or would you seek out someone? I have this system but for some reason something just doesn't add up and I can't figure it out for the life of me. Basically would be a person you lay out all your expenses too and provide your income, etc.

An accountant?

That's what I was initially thinking but wasn't sure if perhaps an accountant was too much above what I was looking for but it makes sense. I'll start looking around.

I mean basically, What your looking for is everything you would need to provide an accountant at tax time so it would make sense to consult one.

That's good news for the economy there.  We must have about 1000 units, between our 4 biggest clients alone, that we have coming.  It's never been this busy in the 25 years I have been doing this.  Nuts.

That was the reason why I wasn't completely sure of an accountant b/c it's not really tax related and was I think thinking perhaps more of a financial advisor

Well, Some accountants are financial advisors as well, But really most do bookkeeping for company's outside of tax season as well if its not done in house.

ahhh thank you. This actually rings some bells now...I took accounting and several personal finance courses in high school (actually considered majoring in accounting/meteorology lol) and loved it. I now remember a discussion we had with my teachers and clearly remember him saying some accounts are financial advisors. I will look into one!

I would have thought Covid would have slowed building down, but it has done the opposite. Or is it not related to covid at all?

We're in similar boat. Recently inherited some money and need advice as to whether to pay off mortgage, invest in ETFs (there are some good Vanguard ones earning 10-30% annually) and other related financial questions. I've contacted Fidelity to see who we can talk to.

Good luck! I always struggle with the notion of is it better to pay off bills or perhaps invest. I've tried to do alot of research into this and I really haven't found any conclusive evidence towards which is better. What my thinking has leaned towards is if you can pay down or pay off as many bills/debt as possible now that opens up even more room for investing down the road and also opens up much more money for yourself down the road. Others have stated...just pay the minimum on all your bills and live life lol.

Why is hiring frozen?  Either they’re hiring or they’re not.  Manual construction labor is in demand now.  I have to wait 2+ months to get work done on our house.

Its not in residential or real estate. It's a large utility company. Union has been notified they will be hiring. They haven't been given the go yet. But sounds like I'm in once it's unfrozen.

My GF is a big four alum, but she refuses to talk to anyone about taxes or advising etc. You need to pick the right type of accountant.

You'll find advice both ways, but the key is your interest rate. If you can earn more return by investing than the interest rate on your debt, you should invest.

Just download RobinHood, put all your savings in the stock market, blindfold yourself, and put money in the stock your dart lands on

Interest rates are the reason we chose to finance our recent appliance purchases from Home Depot.  Interest free for 24 months.  I'll use someone else's money for free for the next 2 years. Just make sure to pay them off within that time or they will hit you with the entire amount of interest the day after the interest free period ends.
