July 2020 Discussion

Recommended Posts

July is upon us and the patten looks blocky for over the northeast.  Omega block in place will keep us relatively cooler until that breaks down.  Big heat will be over Midwest.  Not seeing any huge heatwaves in our near future.

Yea. Follows the theme of a not so overly torchy summer forecasts that I’ve seen . Thesedays we’ll always be a couple C AN from higher mins and CC. The heat will come but I don’t know if we get that big time regionwide heat wave stretch of 95-100 this season for more than a day here or there.  90/60ish works though for summer activities though.

Today’s 12z EPS still not showing any major heat thru day 10.  Omega block in place thru day 5

Guidance continues to heat up next weekend and beyond. Pretty decent agreement on that. 90+ most of holiday weekend away from water

As we thought. I'm thinking we may see a couple days over a hundred.

Yea. Any big heat arrives after the 4th weekend as the block loosens.

A day or 2 of @90 or a few degrees above is not big heat.  Sure I can see a day or 2 before the 10th of July at BDL of 90+ but  not 95-100F in SNE.

GFS hinting at potential for a NW flow event next Monday. Very warm and humid airmass at the sfc with strong shear aloft and s/w

A NWFE as opposed to our traditional winter SWFEs?

so maybe next 90's around mid month?

For us it's looking way down the road.  SW CT notwithstanding.

Some of our best severe episodes come from NW flow events! (Especially when it's associated with an EML).

Such a weird phrase to hear in an AFD... “hot air trapped in Canada”...but it’s an over-the-top type summer it seems.

Looks like some summer weather will be returning this weekend?

LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/... As of 344 PM EDT Monday...Upper low finally opens up and departs eastward. This will allow a ridge to build in its place and hot air that has been trapped in Canada to filter into our region. 925hPa temps climb upward to 23-24 C, which will translate to surface temperatures around 90 in the valleys.

to be fair, TAN is the wrong place to be for 90's, especially early in summer.  Everyone else has been roasting while you seabreeze
