January 10th-12th Winter Storm Potential

Recommended Posts

So far 2.22" since yesterday in the bucket here at DTW. Been pretty much on pace with what was expected and should pick up at least .5" more before all is said and done.

Gonna be close, but the best returns/snow may actually miss ORD to the SE.

We needed a SE trend, and may have gotten too much of one.

ILX with the evening forecasts just extended the WWA to the I-55 corridor, including Springfield, Lincoln, and Bloomington.

Snow/sleet/freezing rain mix in Chatham (10 miles southwest of State Capitol) now.  Glaze of snow and sleet on ground now.  Reports of roads starting to get slick, and Google Maps traffic map showing slow go on I-55 and I-72 here in Sangamon County.

MIxed precip + Saturday night + lackadaisical snow/ice removal in Springfield area in recent years = Travel unadvisable in SPI tonight

Looking possible.

Temp has been stuck just above freezing here for hours.

I don't think the slp ever wraps up and develops a nice defo like you want to see from a cutter and the initial slug of WAA precip as the trough ejects is going to be rain here

Solid

Bummer! I was looking forward to coming here and seeing how some of you might be cashing in. Sounds like another disappointing system. It has been in the 60s here in Upstate NY much of the day.
