New York State is awful when it comes to taxes, especially Nassau, Rockland, Westchester and Orange Counties. New Jersey isn't much better but at least you can find areas with lower taxes.

There are plenty of areas in NY state with low taxes.

You forgot Putnam and Dutchess. Compared to what we receive for services and how behind the times some of our schools are we are way overtaxed.

You can find homes and condos with under 5K annual property taxes on Long island if you do your homework. These are some of the ones below.

Guessing most of these are in Suffolk County. I believe Nassau is one of the highest taxed counties in the country if not the highest. My sisters in-laws live in Brookville and they pay $65000 a year in taxes. It's a nice house on a nice piece of property but that's still outrageous.

It's easier to do it in Suffolk than Nassau. The Gold Coast of Nassau has tax rates surpassing 100K on the largest properties.

Highest:

  • Westchester, N.Y., $13,842
  • Rockland, N.Y., $10,550
  • Bergen, NJ, $9,546
  • Essex, N.J., $9,288
  • Nassau, N.Y., $9,091
  • Passaic, N.J., $8,978
  • Union, N.J., $8,926
  • Morris, N.J., $8,549
  • Hudson, N.J., $8,407
  • Hunterdon, N.J., $8,392

Lowest:

  • Tunica, Miss., $216
  • Bibb, Ala., $228
  • Walker, Ala., $244
  • Blount, Ala, $344
  • Amelia, Va., $358
  • Butler, Pa., $397
  • Lincoln, Okla., $402
  • Fayette, Tenn., $410
  • Meriwether, Ga., $457
  • Saint Clair, Ala., $470

That's insane.   I know folks in Westchester that pay $30,000 for a 2500 SQ foot house on an acre...that's just silly.

Thankfully I own an old home, on old farm land. Mine are a manageable $8k. However, there are few estates in the $75k-$100k tax range that help with the local school system!

$30k on an acre for a 2,500 sq. ft. house is absurd, there is no justification for that in my opinion.

Side note...64 degrees at 3:00 when I stopped home to let the dogs out... Even with the clouds/rain/back door helping, I'm impressed.

Get what you pay for. From Wikipedia:

Tunica gained national attention for its deprived neighborhood known as "Sugar Ditch Alley", named for the open sewer located there.[4] Its fortunes have improved since development of a gambling resort area nearby. While population growth has occurred mostly outside Tunica, the major casinos employ numerous locals. They attract visitors from nearby Memphis, Tennessee, West Memphis, Arkansas and all over the Southeastern United States.

Tunica is a town in and the county seat of Tunica County, Mississippi, near the Mississippi River. Until the early 1990s, the rural town was one of the most impoverished places in the United States, and its population has declined since the peak in 1970.

Further,

In July 2015, the Mississippi Board of Education requested that Governor Phil Bryant take over the Tunica County School District. The Board stated that the school district was violating 22 of 31 state accrediting standards. The Board was critical both of Tunica County's elected superintendent, Stephen Chandler, and of the district's special education program. Bryant signed an emergency declaration enabling the Mississippi Department of Education to take over the school district.[3]

If you can afford a property in Brookville then 65k is joke money.

Long Island is like a whole different world north of 25. It's like going from you average middle class neighborhood south of 25 to Hollywood style estates north.

Yeah in areas that are low populated. Vineland County NJ has low taxes too, but we're talking about metropolitan areas.

Bronx and queens have very cheap taxes. We own a 3 family house and we pay a bit over 5 grand and it's probably one of the best neighborhoods in the Bronx. Morris park area

22nd anniversary of our 120 heat index. Philly made it to 128. The leading edge of that WAA produced one of the strongest Northeast derechos on record.

Just had an F-22 fly over the house. I know POTUS is at the golf course down the hill. I'm assuming the area is restricted air space. Very impressive jet, glad it's one of ours.

Useless plane. The F-35 is much better and more advanced. F-22 has seen almost no action and are a huge waste of money. Not that the F-35 hasn't had its own issues.

The crazy part is that the Navy still uses F-15s...

Well, the F-35 is just entering production, while F-22 production was ended in Pres Obama's first term. so the F-35 should be more advanced.

Sadly neither is much use against ambushes or IEDs,

Separately, surely you meant F-18s, the Navy never used F-15s, they are not carrier compatible at all.
