Mansfield's snowiest Decembers to give us a good barometer on good early season weather for ski areas: Year Pinkham Notch Year Mt. Mansfield 1970 72.3 2007 83.5 2003 70.5 1969 78.5 1968 66.5 1970 77 1981 63.7 1968 71.5 1995 60.4 1997 65.9 1972 55.8 2003 64 1969 50.7 1995 62 2008 49.7 2000 60 2007 48.5 1972 55.8 1951 48 1978 55.7 Fun random fact from that...they had the same snowfall in Dec 1972. Anyways, these Decembers averaged quite a bit above normal for snowfall down at the SNE stations...there are a few exceptions that were closer to normal like 1968 and 1951....1972 was decent for places like ORH but bad for the southern areas and coastline.
