That site, and the sister site that uses it's data (lightningmaps.org), are both awesome for real-time lightning strikes.  Is it any more or less accurate than the pay sites?

It's pretty solid. They're all amateur lightning weenies that have their own equipment. The more sites, the better the coverage, and the better the accuracy. I'm considering getting involved down the road once their "blue build" is complete and released.

Maybe it's more about public perception. I wasn't even following social media much, but in the short time that I was on Twitter, several locals were really hyping up a tornado threat. It wasn't just the usual hypsters either.

probably just hyped up because of the significant event we saw hit eastern portions. I think mets might have been a little more keen to threats after the last event. Same way I feel like people have a tendency to hype up an upcoming event after a significant snow storm.
