bkviking
only got to 64 here...clearing never made it-feels like October Out in Port Jefferson we did finally break clouds and get some splendid sunshine for about an hour.. Otherwise, a disaster of a weekend, a very mediocre month, and not the best prognosis going forward.. Frankly, the last 3 years have been mediocre for summer so I'm hoping something changes. It's just insane to have temps in low 60s last Sunday in June as we did today.

IsentropicLift
Had two more rain showers tonight. So much for all the salvaging Sunday calls. Today was cool, cloudy and showery.

Wxnyc
What a disaster of a weekend.. Sun never broke through up here 2.03" so far this weekend I feel your pain ,came up to my summer home up here in liberty ny, for the summer last week , we had one beautiful day wednesday , then cloudy and showery thursday, not bad friday , but its been raining pretty much non stop since saturday midday. Got down to 48 with strong northeasterly winds saturday evening , felt like it was in the 30s. Today was a little better made it to 62 but raining or drizzling all day and still going. Tomorrow was going to be the one dry day , now looking at maybe some peeks of sun for the afternoon then its back into the rain. Terrible pattern for summer vacation in the catskills. pazzo83
Heading to Europe tomorrow, just in time for a historic heatwave to arrive. I'm going to be in Switzerland, but looks like temps of 35-40C could be widespread from France through Germany. Where we will be is supposed to have highs approaching 30C, at an elevation of around 4,000-5,000ft. Should be interesting.
nzucker
Made it down to the upper 50s last night here in southern Westchester with a delightful breeze to cool things down...forecast high is 76F so should be another below normal day after we stayed in the 60s all weekend. Looks like a few hot days now especially for France and Germany...a cold front sweeps through the UK and western Spain/Potugal by Friday, but 850s are like 20C over the Continent for at least 5-6 days. bluewave
The current near record forecast MJO spike for late June into early July is only enhancing the no major heat and wet summer El Nino pattern that we are experiencing.
IsentropicLift
With the recent rains we are finally seeing the area under a drought recede. A moderate drought is now restricted to LI only and most of NJ is no drought.

Yea I was looking at the forecast from the Swiss Met office for one of the peaks near where we will be (Jungfraujoch), and even at like 3500m it is going to be in the mid 50s. That's crazy. nzucker
That looks like Friday morning at 7am to me. Another winter-like system in late June/early July with some chilly 558 thicknesses to the north. Probably stays in the low 70s Friday if that system remains to our southeast.

In early June, the 850 freezing line got down into Germany, southern England, and southern Scandinavia several times....I guess it's time for warmth but it's unfortunate for the players at Wimbledon, which starts today. However, the heat shouldn't last as long in England as continental Europe.

nzucker
73F here in Westchester, third cool day in a row. NYC should finish below normal this month given the weekend rains (had departures of -9 and -8) followed by a cool airmass today behind the departing low...low was 63F and high should be 75-77F, about -4 departure. They were -0.1F cumulative going into today, and so they should be around -0.3F after today depending on how warm this afternoom gets. This leaves Tuesday and Wednesday...tomorrow looks around average, but Wednesday should be slightly above with forecast of 89/69..going to be close. IsentropicLift
The Euro shifted way South for Friday which is great news. The next three days however should feature numerous storm chances and I wouldn't be prematurely declaring victory for the weekend either.

Yea they said that the British Isles and the Iberian peninsula might get some relief, but the open to Wimbledon was going to be warm. Wunderground has highs in the mid 90s in London in a couple days. That's crazy with the freezing line earlier this year, what a flip those places will be seeing. I was checking out some snow-forcasting websites for the Alps, and they all had the freezing line there approaching 15,000ft by mid week. There will be snow on the ground at the top, but it definitely will not be snowing.

You're going to be in a trough with several embedded shortwaves so the bottom line is things will be unsettled.
