Finally clearing out.
Down to 29.7°F here
Very happy to end the growing season officially. Might be one of my favorite days if only because we no longer have to issue frost/freeze headlines.
Very happy to end the growing season
Damaging low of 28.5 last night.
Woke up to a dusting on roof and car tops from a little snow here in Winooski this morning.
Time lapse from yesterday shows the snowbow starting around 11:30am
Jealous of all the snow pics. Won't be surprised if we dont hit 32f on the hill tonite
Damaging low of 28.5 last night.
No offense meant of course.
In general we're pretty awful at forecasting frost formation. And I'm also generally not a fan of having unscientific ways of issuing forecasts (i.e. frost advisory when temps reach 36).
Lost my own bet. 27.5f
Tonight should be the night you lose to your neighbors anyway. We hit 27 on the hill tonight, we'll probably be 27 again tonight while chez Ekster bottoms out around 20 in his little bowl of a neighborhood a couple miles away.
Where's ekster from?
His place is a little north of the office in some ancient lake bed, so he radiates with the best of 'em.
24.5 here this morning
The warmth from him torching cars after the Mets win, should keep it warm.
6.6" on the Rockpile yesterday, resulting in 2-3' drifts
snow and leaves
Event totals: 0.8” Snow/0.12” L.E.
We woke up to white here at the house this morning, with temperatures in the 20s F and some very fluffy snow accumulations comprised of some nice flakes. It was still snowing when I made my observations, and we subsequently got some graupel, which wound up sitting on top of the other snow and compressing it. I’ll put that additional accumulation into the next update.
Details from the 8:00 A.M. Waterbury observations:
New Snow: 0.6 inches
New Liquid: 0.02 inches
Snow/Water Ratio: 30.0
Snow Density: 3.3% H2O
Temperature: 28.1 F
Sky: Light Snow (5-15 mm flakes)
Snow at the stake: 0.5 inches
25.4F ends the growing season with a bang!
Just had a snow shower pass overhead. Looks like the mountains may pick up a little more
Light Snow at Bretton Woods. 30F currently
Clearing sky! The rock pile From Bretton Woods
High of 39.5
Pretty brutal out there.
I'm forecasting a low of 24.4 tonight.
Event totals: 1.1” Snow/0.13” L.E.
We’ve had some on and off flurries today, but there's been no additional accumulation since what we picked up in the morning subsequent to my 8:00 A.M. observations. That second round of morning accumulation was heavy in graupel as I noted before, but still came in at fairly low density based on the water I could pull out of it.
My data from the past 10 years indicates that this location averages somewhere in the 0.5” to 1.0” range of snowfall each October, so with over an inch of accumulation thus far, this October is currently running in the upper half of the data set.
Details from the 4:00 P.M. Waterbury observations:
New Snow: 0.3 inches
New Liquid: 0.01 inches
Temperature: 37.8 F
Sky: Partly Cloudy
Snow at the stake: Trace
I just had a snow shower here in ny at 192' asl and 47.7f. I'm taking this as good sign for the coming winter. Sometimes the atmosphere just wants to snow.
We just had another good round of snow push through from the northwest with some decent flakes up to ½” plus:
That surge dropped another 0.6” snow/0.02” L.E. in short order.
Flakes are so close on radar ,but not reaching us. Down to 34f
I will post pics later of a big squall I hit in Underhill
Man squalls rolled through at the mountain but wasn't expecting the sight at home... 1.3" of new snow and everything white.
Looks like it only took till October 18th for the local ASOS to have its first couple +SN obs...two different squalls today got down to that 1/4sm SN+ level in town:

Taking the dog for a walk down the driveway...
