Light snow/freezing rain falling here. The roads are ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS. There are NUMEROUS reports of cars off the road, accidents and closed roadways already. A few mentions of even police cars in ditches by the roadside.

The NWS is still going with a 6-12" snow expected by tomorrow.

With 0.80" precipitation as of 8 am, NYC's annual precipitation is now 50.55".

2014 is the 32nd time on record that NYC has had 50" or more precipitation during a calendar year. The record goes back to 1869. A disproportionate share of those excessive precipitation years has occurred after 1970.

1869-1969: 12 years with 50" or more precipitation (approximately once very 8.4 years)

1970-2014: 20 years with 50" or more precipitation (approximately once every 2.3 years)

2000-2014:  9 years with 50" or more precipitation (approximately once every 1.7 years)

Any way, those are some fun statistics while we continue to wait for the pattern change in the medium-term, for which there are now increasing hints on the guidance.

Water is coming up through the sewers at the end of my block from salt water surge. This is causing the fresh water rain to have no where to go and the road is flooded with about a foot of water. Nothing to major though and actually allot of fun in my truck.

Looks like the period of heaviest rain and highest winds will come later when tides are on the way back out preventing moderate flooding.

This really illustrates how much worse sandy would have been had it been accompanied by heavy tropical rains. Once the sewer system is overwhelmed with saltwater any rain instantly floods

Right at the lower threshold for MDT along the south shore back bays while the ocean only made minor.
