related topic...google laporte anomaly

cool stuff

That's awesome!  We have JSTOR access at school... I'm gonna have to dig up the 1968 paper.

And apparently later debunked as observer bias according to one my professors.  Not that steel mill-effect precipitation doesn't happen, but it doesn't really happen enough to show up as an anomaly.

That is crazy. Is such a massive amount of relatively heavy snow like that bad for the car's suspension? That had to weigh almost as much as a small car by its self.

I don't drive it much, but I was worried about that... it was a job!  Almost dug out.  just have a path to blow into the back yard so I can feed the birds.

"has to compute snow load on car" surpasses "has been on TV twice saying 'it sounded like a freight train'" as a metric IMO

Looks like we'll keep our dusting overnight here. Some really slick spots on the overpasses where the snow melted on contact earlier and flash froze as the sun went down.

There was a bad accident on Michigan Ave. at I-94 about an hour ago, the bridge was really slick and an SUV rear-ended a sedan and caused it to veer onto oncoming traffic where it hit a pickup head-on.

Had 0.1" this morning at my house & DTW, then this afternoon just a trace imby but DTW had that squall drop 0.4" of fresh snow, so 0.5" on the day there vs just 0.1" here. In fact, there was a spot I saw while driving tonight in Taylor that appeared to have like 0.7-0.8" on the grass...but just bare at my house (this mornings 0.1 melted). Lake effect - it varies from block to block!

DTX thinking about 1 inch Saturday night. For November and with this cold, I will be happy to go for a snow walk Sunday morning smile.png

Yeah the snow we got with that squall is still on the roof, it hasn't melted yet.

EDIT: pick up another heavier burst after this initial one, that lasted 15-20 minutes. Poured fluffy flakes. Everything covered...went out and measured 0.5". On the board with measurable for 2014-15. :guitar:

Just got one of those bursts of snow here, that you guys up in N IL had earlier tonight.

First  :weenie: photo of the season for me. A little late with the shot, so I missed the peak fun stuff.
