SNE "Tropical" Season Discussion 2020

Where is Josh headed? -
Looks like some towers firing around the center. Just got home and seeing some reports (TWC & Josh) saying there is a more N component to Marco. Any thoughts on this?

I've learned a ton about tropical from you. I've honestly never really followed tropical or studied it so my knowledge is slim...I do follow Josh, Eric Webb, and a few others closely on Twitter when they discuss tropical so I've picked up on things but not nearly enough to where I have confidence discussing things. The only thing I really know is...it takes one helluva pattern to get one here and IDK if models show a hurricane striking 3-days out...if the pattern isn't supportive I'll write it off faster than a Trump bounced check. I'll never forget (3 years ago?) that hurricane models had hitting us...the one that fuji------ off the SE coast? One of my classmates needed new pants b/c he was going wild about it saying it was going to be a hit. It was like 3-days out, models showed it hitting and he said to me, "you still think it's going to be a miss?" I said, "yup". He said, "you're crazy" and ran out of the weather center saying he had to call and warm people...lol

Rightfully so. Josh Nichols (local forecaster) posted a tweet talking about people needing to be prepared. He has since deleted it. So add me to the confused. -
Looks like Josh had significant storm surge

Happy birthday, Josh. -
My one picture is incomparable to Josh's but still decent rates here. Total at 4PM was 2.9 on the day

Can you post links? Thanks. Wish Josh had been able to chase this one. Looked high end at both landfalls

Josh is gonna survive RIP to the rest of you fools

Hey bo/Josh, we’re looking at some land, 15 acres, over near your old stomping ground bo, East Jordan. It’s actually just off M66 about 1/2 way between East Jordan and 131. Just wondering what you’re thoughts are of that area. Looks like they average a little over 100” of snow and it’s close to some really good mountain bike trails and some great inland lakes. Any thoughts you could pass along would be appreciated, thanks

Ok so here is some quality information to lighten everything up. Car conversation on the way home from riding. 13 yr old- mom did you know that if you find whale vomit on the beach it is worth a lot of money. Me- ...ah whale vomit? 13 yr old- yes. When a whale eats squid the barbs from the squid collect in its stomach. And it eventually passes through the anus... Me- so whale vomit is actually whale shit! 13 yr old- yea you could say that. 13 yr old- they crap it out and it gets rolled around in the sea for many years and gets hard. When it makes its way to a beach it weighs a ton. Me- 13 yr old- it is rare so it is worth a lot of money. Me- so we should look for whale shit? 13 yr old- they use it in perfume to make the scent last longer. Me- Me- so wearing perfume means you are wearing whale shit? 13 yr old- yes. Where does this kid get this from? And yes Josh actually looked this up and she is correct! It is called ambergris.

Cue Josh optimistically stating that March is going to rock. EDIT: They also forgot that this is a leap year. February 29th is going to rock. Either that, or it will be an extra day of a miserable winter.

January 22nd-25th Winter Storm Potential
beavis1729 replied to Thundersnow12's topic in Lakes/Ohio Valley
Look, I know I'm not in the majority on this board...I get that. And I do agree with Josh that today is a nice wintry day...near 30 with about 2" of snow on the ground. But that's the bare minimum to qualify for a wintry day...just barely hanging on. If you use the criteria of a high temp <= 30F and 2+" of snow cover to define a "wintry day", we've only had about 5 of them since November 15th. So, 5 days out of 70. Not good. Believe me, it's exhausting to have to hope for every day to be below normal...and to know that if it gets close to freezing, you have to desperately wish for the sun not to come out, because otherwise the drip drip drip will start. I was up in northern WI snowmobiling with my son and brother this past weekend, and it was glorious. About 20 degrees during most of the day with pixie dust falling, all surfaces covered in snow, very short daylight...and about 10-15" of snow on the ground. Then it cleared out after sunset and rapidly dropped to 5 degrees, even with a fairly mild large-scale air mass in place. And, the locals all said that 2019-20 has been an incredibly mild winter so far. Even in the most boring winters up there, you can wake up every day between 12/15 and 2/28, and there will be snow on the ground and it will be wintry. No worries at all about melting; it's just a matter of how much below freezing it will be, and whether there is a ton of snow or a decent amount of snow. It's a sacred part of the calendar. The Cubs didn't win a World Series for 107 years, but it didn't stop people from hoping for it each year. -

When even Josh says you are unreasonable in reference to cold and snow, might be time to reevaluate things. -
I don't have any bat boxes but that is a good idea. I do have two bats that hang around the open area of the front yard. I see them pretty regularly around dusk in the summer, swooping up bugs. Very nice pics Josh! Is that a for sale sign at the end of your drive? 48 hr storm total 20" here, 17" MQT.

Dang my Twins just signed Josh Donaldson...ok I'm ready for baseball since winter wont start

Proud of my team. Sad a season is over but have no right to expect better results with what they had to overcome. Found this quote from the game summary just lol. “By the end of the game, un-retired McCown’s weapons included Greg Ward, Josh Perkins, Robert Davis, Richard Rogers, Shelton Gibson, and Deontay Burnett. All had been unemployed at some point this season.”

I trust nothing, especially the euro. I was really focusing and following the 'threat' that was showing for this coming week. If you recall, it started as a major low cutting to the lower lakes with a lot of wind and snow on the nw flanks. It then started to look like a Josh special with the low cutting through Ohio. Then came our turn with a few runs of the low tracking through KY. Now, it looks like it will end up a sloppy, slushy 1-2" event for DC. I see Chicago just ninja'd me

I am 100% a Bills fan and a Josh Allen fan. And every comment that has been made about them on here I can agree with. My take on Allen is he will get better as time goes on and he settles down more and of course with more help. We need to keep the coaching staff both offense and defense as well as, as many defensive players on the roster as we can for next year. As for the loss I feel everyone shoulders some blame. Allen made too many costly plays, the coaching staff called to conservative of a mid game with the lead. And the defense gave up to many big plays with soft coverage and or poor tackling. Football is a team sport and they truly lost as a team....now back to your local weather forecast lol.

Upstate/Eastern New York
BuffaloWeather replied to BuffaloWeather's topic in Upstate New York/Pennsylvania
I blame the play calling more then anything. Tannehill just beat the Patriots throwing for 77 yards. They ran the ball 34 times for 182 yards. Singletary was running all over them, and Houston has a bottom 5 run defense. Gore needs to be gone next year. Allen threw the ball 48 times! Watson for 25....What in the world was our team thinking? Throwing 3 bombs to the end zone in which none were necessary, allen tossing the ball back on his run with over a minute on the clock needing a FG at the mid field...Secondly I blame the refs for that 3rd and 18 play delay of game and the phantom block in the back 15 yard penalty that knocked us out of FG range. But Josh Allen threw for less then 50% completion, he isn't good yet. Has a long offseason ahead of him to improve his accuracy. That was the most frustrating game I've watched since the music city miracle in 1999. Going to take awhile to recover from that one.
