Bluewave has all the answers about central park. But yes, that happens to our cars as well in my driveway under my tree vs the one not under it even though they are only maybe 15' apart.

To answer your question more specifically, this was literally just posted on X 15 min ago: “The question many people ask is: is MJO good? Does it propagate in the CPAC? Not an easy answer since there are many factors that influence atmospheric circulation, first of all the IOD and secondly the ENSO. A strongly negative phase of the IOD increases tropical convection, enhancing it on the maritime continent with strong WWB, while a negative ENSO with colder SST over the central Pacific (La Nina CP) favors strong EWB on the international date line (180°). This situation sees strong diverging trade winds in the equatorial area. A strong propagation above the CPAC (upward converging heat fluxes) is excluded, if not a rapid phase but with a weak magnitude, there could still be some weak effect even in the mid-latitudes to be evaluated later. The Hovmoller diagram at 850hpa shows this rapid passage of WWB over the CPAC due to the support of a gravitational kelvin wave. The PV could remain weak at the moment due to the eQBO with a probable Canadian Warming whose effects will affect America and less Europe. With these variables, the atmospheric circulation will remain blocked with a tropical convection that will remain on the maritime continent with difficulty in propagating over the Pacific”

If you believe any 15 day model output, a lot of canada gets covered, especially the eastern half. If that came to be, would it really matter that it is Nov 15th vs Oct 31?

Airports have all gusted in the 40-45mph range. Peak MD Mesonet gust right now is 39mph. Will be funny to see the inflatable Halloween decorations in the wind this evening, though it won't be as gusty.

I'm on a laptop, maybe that is why. Mobile is one more click for me as well now

November 2025 general discussions and probable topic derailings ...Typhoon Tip replied to Typhoon Tip's topic in New England Funny you mentioned that ... I was noting to self that we really hadn't had much wind around my area over the last 2 to 3 week. Leafs though past peak color were refusing to let go. Today has set in with it pretty good with breezes - estimating 30 to 35 mph gusts so far, and the trees have en masses gone skeletal all at once. It's like they all just disrobed. When the wind blows out there, white noise whir; the last time it blew it was the sound of rustling leafs. There are some oaks still with browns and reds but by and large, everything made the Halloween deadline like right at the bell. Yesterday at this time I was wondering if this would be the the first Halloween I'd ever seen whence leafs still on the trees. But nope, we're clear

The 06z GFS threw out another clown map for some of us in the extended. Rain changing to snow. 2-3 inches over my county, more over the mountains. Major doubts that happens, but we may see our first flakes in November.

The wind is still nasty and cold today in the high country. Up in Yancey helping my dad build a cabin

Spooky Season (October Disco Thread)tamarack replied to Prismshine Productions's topic in New England Good explanations, if a bit pedantic. ("I shouldn't have to explain this . . ." and ". . . if you're paying attention, . . .") I don't count the number of sticks I put into the Jotul, but looking at 2 average temp days a month apart - 9/24 (avg 55°) with near full foliage and 10/24 (avg 43°) with 95% leaf drop - I know it took considerably more wood to hold the desirable temp on the latter day. Part of the reason the car comparison may not be totally relevant is because our house is far more greatly insulated and has double-pane windows. The lower sun angle works both ways - it hits windows more directly but also has to pass thru more atmosphere and filter thru more sticks.

2025 Lawns & Gardens Thread. Making Lawns Great Againdryslot replied to Damage In Tolland's topic in New England Had to pick up a humidifier for the greenhouse, I'm still tweaking the heat and humidity to try to get the right balance on both for the citrus trees, When temps are down in the 50-60 range, I'm getting 55-80% RH in there, But when the sun starts heating it up to 80°F, My RH% is dropping into the 20-30% range, So im getting an imbalance, Optimum range for temps is mainating 65-75°F during the day, And 55-65°F at night, With the RH% between 60-80%, I'm going to program the humidifier to a constant 70% RH to prevent unwanted guest and mold.
