  1. Past hour
  2. Low temp 48 imby/Columbia Saturday morning.
  3. Sunny at jones beach. Hopefully it holds out
  4. About ten years ago I abandoned the lawn merry-go-round and let my front yard go back to nature. Planted a few trees and shrubs and now it looks like a maturing second growth forest. Very nice. Same with my back yard sans the septic field. I have a few small lawn patches left but they're mostly shade and have turned into moss which looks a good as lawn but doesn't need any water or cutting. Used to have to mow my lawn weekly but now I only break out the mower about twice a summer. Not sure how big lawns ever became desirable.
  5. Years ago, I read that water's erosive power was a 5th-order function, meaning that for a given volume, doubling the velocity increases erosive power by a factor of 32.
  6. Photos I took of the Akron, CO tornado yesterday. Edited slightly to make the tornado pop a bit more, the dust made the visibility super low!
  7. From a brief partly cloudy to mostly cloudy now as the ULL spins around to our north. Clouds back to and through PA look to keep it mostly or mainly cloudy the rest if the morning into the early PM.
  8. That's exactly where I got the wildflower seed mix I planted in the Spring. Great website. For the rest of the back garden area, I want a clover field lawn with wildflowers mixed in. I will probably just buy white clover seeds and the flower seeds from American meadows and mix it in. That link in my other post was for the picture- showing the look I want(minus the grass).
  9. Today
  10. 52 was my low. It’s windy today - blowing in the upper 20s. We’re off to search for a new bed. Wish us luck. It’s confusing af.
  11. Talking with my sons about the Wiz (One who played D3 and has friends in the NBA) and we were wondering why they don't look to hire Mike Malone or Taylor Jenkins. Both have built teams and with the young talent the Wiz do have, could be a good 2-3 year project to build a competitive team.
  12. Up to 7.67" for the month from a steady string of mostly smaller events. Biggest single day was only 1.61" on the 10th.
  13. I keep finding it odd that 2009-10, as a strong el nino, ended up as the coldest CONUS winter of this era. Pretty much every other strong el nino since 1972-73 (with the exception of 1991-92, which was affected by Pinatubo) produced a baseline jump in temperature. Even 1982-83, which had El Chichon. So what caused 2009-10 to be such a cold winter CONUS? There had to be some underlying reason here (like was there a volcano in late 2008/2009?) Otherwise, it should have been a warm CONUS winter at the very least, and possibly produced a baseline jump like the other strong el ninos.
  14. The GW people got it all wrong. Instead of 150F wet bulb temps we're going to turn into the steppes with cold dry wind all the time.
  15. Temp and sun is very pleasant! And I enjoy a light breeze. But just crazy we have days and days of 30mph straight line gusts in late May.
  16. Same here, but I guess we needed to keep the weekend rain streak alive. I think this is now 10 in a row here, with at least some precipitation on one of the days.
  17. Awesome. Means another $50 dollar electric bill instead of $150.
  18. Hopes for a sunny day not looking good with clouds quickly filling the sky and the cold winds picking up
  19. the airports barely missed
  20. everywhere but here.... we had a big storm with dark clouds move in around 7:30 and it lasted until around 8. At the same time, my allergies spiked (no allergies before or after the rain lol) I was looking for rainbows but didn't see any, funny how localized they can be.
  21. Spitting rain despite patchy thin blue sky. Antistein is determined.
  22. Yes for NYC
  23. Pinatubo influenced Don
  24. Still mostly cloudy here but getting better
  25. haha glad it's not here, almost completely sunny after some clouds earlier today.
