  2. I don't know how true that is but I don't believe it's going to be a wall to wall torch with very low snows. I think this winter will be highly variable and the back half will generate at least 1 major snowstorm for the east.
  3. Super El Niño is bad for sustained cold, it isn’t necessarily bad for snow. For say NYC and SE you guys I think could actually do well snow wise because all it takes is one big storm to get you over your seasonal snow totals. I would also think the storm track with the active super Nino driven STJ could be good for the mid Atlantic. Super Nino is bad for coastal SNE and ski areas for 2 reasons however: 1. More of our snow consists of nickel and dime events than huge storms, so the super Nino tradeoff (warmer overall, very few nickle and dime events, elevated risk of huge storms) hits northern areas harder. This is the bigger issue for ski areas, as well as the worse snow retention due to it being milder overall. 2. The active southern jet doesn’t necessarily push storms up the coast if the “big one” does hit , often they slide out after hitting the mid Atlantic rather than coming up (see Jan 2016), and when they do come up they tend to run inland a bit and bring in warmer air, bringing rain to coastal New England. This is the bigger issue for areas like Boston, the juiced up Miller A track often isn’t great here. We tend to do better with Miller Bs and SWFE events. I’m not optimistic for my area and the ski areas, but in NYC and the mid atlantic I don’t think how things are developing is necessarily bad in terms of snow prospects.
  4. First 10 days or so look warm…gets dicey after that.
  5. Super, east-based El Niño (strongest in history) along with a +QBO and we have the usual weenie accounts on social media hyping a very cold winter
  6. Not a forecast Just a prediction I think his middle name may be Nit

  8. they're in desperation mode Ya love to see it
  9. Well.... my sunny early morning has gone partly to mostly cloudy?? The forecast is 100% sun today. Glancing at satellite you can see the clouds filling in over the area from WV. I'll blame the NW flow.
  10. This.is true.. when I saw the springfield tornado I could of got closer.. my heart was like do it.. but my brain was saying your close enough and try to live another day to see another one
  11. No-I equate them with American Steakhouse type joints...average food at best-there's enough decent places around here so no need to visit those kinds of restaurants
  12. Darwin has had 21 straight days of 1015+ mb pressure. Based on records back to to 1991, that’s a new record long string breaking the old record of 20 days set in Aug of 2015.
  13. 4.00" event total. .59" since midnight and 12.29" for the year. Mosquitoes are very happy. Can't go anywhere near the edge of the woods or you'll perish
  14. Some years back my sister-in-law gave us a gift card for Red Lobster. Unfortunately, the 3-4 RLs in Maine had closed - couldn't compete with the locals. We had to go to northern Mass to use the card; combined it with a Bible conference in Concord, NH so didn't need a special trip. GYX overnight forecast (<0.1") was on target (sadly) - 0.07". Radar isn't very promising, either. NNJ where I grew up got pounded, 3-7". We'd lived in the hills, avoiding flood damage, but the Pompton/Passaic river system flooded frequently. Unfortunately, the Passaic took the lives of two 10-year-olds yesterday.
  15. Just saw some 2.5-3 inch rates on my wunderground station at my sisters place on Pt Judith. https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KRINARRA66
  16. My family & I are leaving on a cruise out of Philly. We get a couple of days in Bermuda & a day in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I’ll be back late next week!
  17. My brother-in-law had a firewood business for years, I used to get 4 cords fort $600. He retired a couple years ago so lost the deal.
  18. i don't disagree with the need for the warning, just saying that particular warning did not result in a touchdown. The rotation went over my house and was definitely visually there.
  19. Shortly after moving to Maine in 1973, I read that more than half the world's people used wood as a heat source, and I thought that to be sort of quaint. At our NNJ home in NNJ, we had a fireplace, but it was more for atmosphere than heat. We moved from a Fort Kent apartment to our first house (tiny 2-story) in mid-May 1977 and couldn't wait to add a woodstove. I'd installed a Jotul 602 the day before the move. We've run woodstoves as a major heat source ever since - no chimney fires (yet).
