I haven't, but I can't say I go out socializing very much. Lol I was at the Walmart last night and they literally did not have 1 gallon of milk left and shelves were half to completely empty.

January 24-26: Miracle or Mirage JV/Banter Thread!

Yeah I think it’s just the ptype algorithm from the vendor, no meteorologists are forecasting much IP for dc. -
Welcome. Start times vary across the guidance and of course it will be snowing in DE before PA. I’d guess you’re good if you get home before 2-3am (But I’m not a met.)

Haven’t we been talking that the euro doesn’t resolve freezing rain to sleet correctly or as well though? -

People here in dc are so confused, my co worker INSISTS Richmond is getting two feet. People here think we’re getting 12-18 inches in dc. -
I imagine we'll have an Ice Storm Warning hoisted for a lot of us by this afternoon at least. Almost now-casting time w/ looking at what's going on out West, etc.
-
GFS is on meth lol
-
Just read an article that ski resorts out west are hurting for snow. As of this month Colorado statewide snowpack is @ 63% of average, with some areas recording their lowest levels in history. Officials blame a persistent high pressure ridge has blocked storms, resulting in a warmer and drier winter.

Possible Record Breaking Cold + Snow Sunday 1/25 - Tuesday 1/27

IMO a bigger disappointment than this storm having more sleet is this being the only 6+ storm during this cold stretch. -
Absolutely. I'm prepared. And I don't want anyone to read my post and think we are fine. But I do think we manage this ok. But don't leave your safety up to "I think." The chance alone is worth being ready.
-
Thanks! Gets confusing to the public when maybe an area under a winter storm warning could get more ice than an ice storm warning, when ice is the more serious impact to prepare for

1/24-1/25 Major Winter Storm - S. IL, IN, MI and OH
Stevo6899 replied to A-L-E-K's topic in Lakes/Ohio Valley
No thanks. Crazy there's gonna be almost a 100 degrees temp difference between my house in Michigan and Florida. It is pretty rare tho that y'all might see 6 inches on top of pretty decent snow depth already. -

On a funny note I woke up to watch TWC and at 6:50 they had a box to the right with NYC at 8 to 12. Then at 7:05 the box changed to 12 to 18. -

January 25/26 Jimbo Back Surgery Storm
StoneColdWeatherAustin replied to Jimbo!'s topic in Southeastern States
Everything I am reading mentions that FR has to be the predominant precip type before anything else. I assume since there is still so much up in the air right now, this is why no warnings have been issued yet. Timing is normally 12-36 hours before the precip begins. My hunch is that for most of NC, it would be Winter Storm, but it could be Ice Storm for some of the southern regions. -
If it does warm a bit, The Nam will be the first to sniff it out.

I don't know about anyone else but I have no clue the impact of that much sleet will have. I am not talking accumulations just overall impact. I remember 2007 and being able to walk on top of the snow for a week my dog was pissed. I mean think about it 5-10" of snow and then an inch of QPF as sleet into 20-25 degree temps. That's an intense storm for sure even if the totals aren't prolific
