The convection-allowing models show some huge storms with high shear in IL/IN/OH. There seems to be a window of a few hours tomorrow before the cold air catches up with the whole thing. The model soundings have some indicators of higher CAPE with elevated convection going later into the night.

I apologize if it's already been mentioned. Looks like many of us around the area could be racking up those rain totals tomorrow night.

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't make it until the end of summer lol. The plan is my girlfriend is going to go to the shelter and pick out a dog. I can't go and do it because I told her if we encountered pups that were a part of a family there is absolutely zero way I could just take the one, I would have to take the whole family. What I should say though is, the dog will pick her. That is how she ended up with the dog. She went to the animal shelter when she was living in Florida and went into a cage...all of the dogs ran and hid into the corner and only one went up to her and she figured that was the one. The dog had just been dropped off at the shelter a day or two before. Talk about fait.

We lost our black Lab of 13 years on Oct 29, 2016, and with us past normal retirement age led to pondering whether to get another dog. We decided to wait until spring before making a decision. "Spring" came on Feb 4 a yellow Lab mix thru Maine Lab Rescue. Scrawny 32-lb 17-month-old fixed female from TX. (She's now in the 50s and not fat.) Might've never seen snow, and her first 2 weeks here included 5 storms totaling 45", then the Pi-day blizzard really spooked her. Now 10 yr old, turns 11 in July, still spry but achy when I do a reasonably long bushwhack on our woodlot, as she has to sniff everything - if I walk a mile, she does 3 or 4.

Why are you buckin' for that to be the case, Scott. LOL I dunno... I've seen this before in spring when the season's on the death bed. Like the "lucid interval" when out of nowhere the patient bounces back, talkative and smiling sending nurses and relatives scrambling but it ends up fake and they're dead in a couple hours anyway. Heh..just wanted to make a disturbing metaphor. No but I have seen this in spring where there's a regression, and it tends also happen during a warmer outlook, too. But the warm up comes anyway. interesting. We'll see which way this one goes

at my old location, 1.2 miles NW of my current location, the average last freeze from 2017 to 2025 was 4/14...earliest was 4/2 in 2019 and latest was 4/26 in 2024

Lol this thread gets boring in March. Snapped this pic of a remaining pile of snowcrete outside a parking garage at UMD. In January/February it was nearly at the top of that poor tree . That spot gets a lot of afternoon sun - not sure if it will make it to April, but I will update on its lifespan.

Thanks, that is interesting. For that 20 year period, our average last freeze is April 11. Assuming a similar comparison in the fall, that's at least an extra month of growing season here. Not trivial, especially in the fall, but I'll work those numbers another time. I think the difference in the fall will be even more...it's hard to get to freezing when the LI Sound is still near 60°. Our first fall freeze is sometimes a couple of weeks later than the center of the island, but I don't think there is much difference in the spring.

What network are all the sites you post about on, co-op or cocorahs? When I was doing a spatial analysis of reporting stations I ran head first into Chester County, an enigma into itself with at ones being an incredibly densley observed county, yet parts are no better than the hinterlands of the north.
