So pouring here. Not sure about the warning as it is just heavy rain. No wind at all.

Nothing severe here, but it is another Frederick downpour. Latest drought monitor is now showing only pockets of moderate drought. Extremely efficient summer in the rain dept.

Got a touch over .6" in the last 40 minutes with more rain to come. I guess an inch is possible based on radar, but that may be stretching it.- 2,333 replies

Snuck in a bike ride and got home just in time. Looking really dark and rain just started. The drought is unofficially over. Frederick has completed a remarkable comeback.

Many storm chasers, meteorologists and weather enthusiasts alike get extreamly disappointed by lack of severe. I don't really think that disappointment comes from a lack of compassion for the affected, though. -

Very high gusts in this watch. The latest cells formed just to my east so dodged the 3rd round at noon which WUN picked up on. A cell near Flesherton that is elongating is exploding with a likely hail core and major lightning in less than 15 mins! These cells are already intense!

Block Island FTW today. Been mostly sunny here today, clouds have stayed on the mainland. Hoping it clears out tomorrow afternoon too once the rain comes through tonight/tomorrow morning. -
2026-2027 Record-breaking El Nino
mitchnick replied to Stormchaserchuck1's topic in Weather Forecasting and Discussion
Well, by the shadings, it hasn't in the past been nailing any areas. But has been doing better in some areas over others. For example, last year it did well in parts of the MW, NE, and MA while missing out west. Plus, the bottom map is an average over the last 30 years from what I'm seeing; probably the top one too. I wonder how accuracy would change if only looking back the last 5 years when there are obviously improvements with modeling. I don't know about you, but there is an obvious concerted effort by the CC monetaryists, if I may call them that, to poo-poo any seasonal forecast that isn't a wall-to-wall Conus toaster oven. And I would put Jonathan Wall into that category based on the 100+ posts he's made that have shown up on this Board. Nobody knows with certainty how this winter will play out other than odds definitely favor AN in many areas of the Conus. But efforts to contradict/attack seasonal modeling is always a red flag to me. -
