some of the model cloud/RH products might have been a bit optimistic ...  Hi res vis suggests we suffer lowering sun angle and now less able to thermally induce erosion, because there's really nothing above about 1,000 feet elevation but the moon so the sun must be like skipping off the pond so to speak...

there's some sky lights just beginning to open.  If this were May we'd be full sun.    the sounding would shoot us to 82 already but this late in the year and time today getting eaten by cool saturation at 900 feet should limit us under potential - a seasonal feedback mechanism.

That’s why I like the pre-peak period. The contrast is much better than when it’s all orange and red in my opinion. Except for areas with lots of pines mixed in, obviously those always have good contrast. I imagine we’ll be past peak by next week but hopefully the colors last a bit

I mowed the pawpaw and chestnut area once in the early spring and that has been it. There’s a little meadow back there now with clover, goldenrod, and aster. The crickets have been insane.

2 days of mostly sunny forecasts I think I've seen the sun maybe 2 hrs

Weird, hardly any noticeable foliage here aside from the leaves having a more faded look. That’s probably mostly to do with having a fairly dry summer. I’m sure within a couple weeks we’ll start seeing the change. New England's many micro climates and eco diversity is always fascinating to witness.

This year is the first in the last 10 that appears to be on-schedule. 

We've seen odd irregularities in color presentation among species ... Timing of onset, therein.   Which began about 8 years ago.   Since then some trees around this area that are easy to remember, year-to-year, began displaying yellows instead of orange.  Going brown instead of orange.  Going red even... doing so at as early as September 20 and as late as October 15.  

This year however, it reminds me of the amount of  'tinging' that should be here on October 1-ish, which is the case now.  Another week, you can see that we'll be flashing up pretty good.   October 10 was always dependable prior to that 8 years ago; the peak for this guy was close to that date

This year, judging now and extrapolating seems we'll be close to this by October 10 again

See I thought it’s starting to come along. Rt 3 has some decent color.

Yeah must be just my little corner of swampville keeping that underground moisture flowing more than surrounding spots. We live in an odd area of town literally surrounded by swampland and at nearly 200’ in elevation. Of course it’s pure conjecture on my part but I wonder if that plays a role. The acorns have been dropping like mad in the last few weeks so there’s that lol.

Colors aren't changing quick here but it seems to be on pace with other years.  I'm just off the bay at 75' above sea level which could play a role.

A stand out feature this year (that I've seen before but not every year) is the significant amount of pine sap.  Cones, needles and sap everywhere this year.

Some muted and some more vibrant colors around now.  Big difference from a week ago.

Yeah, the rain was nice, but this turning into a dreary week kind of sucks. I don’t think the suns been out here
