Pretty low consensus on what this ULL is going to do Sunday though next week. Euro AI been pretty consistent on it being progressive. Physics models flip flopping between a similar solution and stalling it. 0z euro stalls it to our west.

After no measurable rain in the last 9 days and the low dews over the last few, the lawn is crunchy.  Sprinklers are on full send this morning.

Depth, orientation and slow movement of ULL over OV in opposition to HP off the coast will determine who gets how much rain from Sunday - Tuesday.

We need to start August as a wet month!   I have only received 62% of normal for July.

Despite a short heat wave near the 4th of July, this month turned out cooler and drier compared to last year at my cooperative observation site (RSTM2). 

• July 2025 - 16, 90 degree days & monthly precip total of 6.5"
• July 2026 - 10, 90 degree days & monthly precip total of 3.6"

It’s sort of settled into a physics model vs ai model split now? Physics models slow it down and end up rainier. AI keeps it moving.

What transparent finish(no hiding of the grain and with a tint that matches the house)can I put on my deck that will look good for more than one season? I have tried several and it is never worth the effort esp being in the woods. Nature always wins. One of the cheaper ones I have tried that lasted as long as Cabot and others that cost twice as much is Flood brand. Everything holds up much longer on the railings but on the deck itself its a year or 2 at most before it goes to crap.

I use Benjamin Moore Woodluxe.  I’ve been in paint business for 43 years . And use all Benjamin Moore paints and stains.  Most of my work is high end clients in the Potomac and Bethesda neighborhoods.   Hope that helps.

I'm going to be washing a house on Sunday at 11 right near your town. I'd love to come by and take a look. I've been restoring deck since 1997. I definitely have a few options. Send me a DM.

It was super nice out today. It was a lovely day to be outside.

I have been incrementally replacing bad deck boards for the last few years. I finally got tired of it(with all the other shit I have to do lol) and contracted a local 'handyman' 2 man company to finish replacing the boards. I should have thought of you! Anyway after the boards age a bit(pressure treated pine) I would like to put a transparent tinted stain on. What do you recommend? I will gladly save that job for you if you want to do it. The 'older' boards have grayed a bit and will need a wash. I won't be home on Sunday btw.

I'm in the same boat as you, wooded forest surrounding the house creating shade. The Flood brands DO just as good a job as the expensive stuff, IMO. I've used them for years, and about every third year I'm redoing the process, just at a cheaper price point.

I'd have them replace all the boards. You're place is beautiful. The reason I say this is because you need a non film forming woodstain (oil). These types of stain showcase the natural beauty of wood. New boards and old boards will have different levels of checking and coloration. You are correct about letting the wood dry. I like 13% or less on my moisture meter. That takes about 6 weeks this time of year. I'd wait 8 since your in the shade. Let's setup a free estimate sometime soon. We'll schedule it up for Oct. I have tons of experience and fair pricing. 

It's a little more humid this morning. I'm seeing lots of dew. I wanted to start staining at 7am but it's to damp this morning. What an awesome airmass we just had.
