Yep and I was consistently on the western edge of it so not too much rain here. Starting to see some sun in the western sky. A quarter inch is about going to do it here.

Yeah just some very slow odd movement with these storms in our area. If I was just a few miles to the east I would have gotten a lot of rain. Still it was just enough to give things a watering here.

Yeah I think South Plainfield must be close to 3 inches of rain. I'm close to the border of South Plainfield so this heavy just barely missed me a few miles to the east.

A storm will bring rain and possible thunderstorms to the region during Tuesday and Wednesday. The potential exists for a general 2.00"-4.00" rainfall with locally higher amounts. 

Following the storm, Thursday and Friday will see a continuation of below normal readings. Temperatures could return to near seasonable levels for the weekend.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +3.8°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was +2.2°C for the week centered around July 23. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +3.38°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +1.92°C. The ongoing strong El Niño will continue to strengthen through the summer.

The SOI was -31.27 today. 

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was +0.804 today. 

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied near 96% probability that New York City will have a cooler than normal July (1991-2020 normal). July will likely finish with a mean temperature near 76.3° (1.2° below normal). 

Supplemental Information: The projected mean would be 0.2° below the 1981-2010 normal monthly value.

My Christmas Radar Tree had blue - green - yellow and red lights blinking today - wide range of rain totals today - region wide - 0 to 3 mainly Plainfield NJ got the worst of the lightning strikes and or wind it appears

The HRRR has tried its last few runs to make it worse too, its delaying or not having that initial 15-18Z push.  I think the later it begins the worse it is.  Some models still have that period from 15-17z with showers which would probably mess things up somewhat.  The system is dynamic enough I think the evening would still be bad

This station in Bergen County is showing an inch of rain in 10 minutes if you break it down into the 5 minute observations from 18:30 and 18:35.

Today was "exactly normal" in Philadelphia... high 88 and a low of 70. How often does that actually happen? Normal high and low hit on the dot, so to speak.

My Vantage Pro 2 rain bucket measured 2.55". First drops of rain detected began at 6:40pm with measurable rainfall done by 7:55pm. Also had hail mixed in with the rain during first several minutes of rainfall. Winds were gusty but not too strong. Very, very impressive. I had to let out a few inches of water from my pool.

I recently lamented to my wife how thunderstorms at least in our area were becoming a rare animal. But like you said, this summer they seem to be making up for "their" recent absence. But maybe not for all.
