Solid MCV soaker today.

61 degrees midday with steady rain on first day of astro. summer is something I do like, but I must admit it also feels wrong. Checking Chicago-area climo for June 21-22, this kind of first day of summer happens maybe once a decade. The last four years have all had heat right around the solstice. The last year with a notably cool and rainy spell around the solstice was 2018.

2.17" so far.  Nice soaker.

EDIT:  2.37" now as it winds down.  Seemed a lot like tropical remnants today.  Pretty unusual to get this much stratiform rain in late June with zero thunder.  The past hour or so we had heavy drizzle coming down in sheets with the gusty ne winds.  Gave us an extra couple of tenths.

Another cool morning with upper 30’s at my place. Eagle Mine about 10 miles nw of me down to 31. Should see mid 60’s today and a bit warmer tonight w/ mid 40’s.
Have about 6 weeks of good garden weather before the sun begins to sink behind the trees on the hill to my south and west, essentially shading my garden from 3 pm on.
Rooting for a couple weeks of mid to upper 80’s and humidity between now and then.

Spectacular if you’re on the beach with a pool taking in the sunsets gulf side and watching the lightning and hearing distant thunder from the daily boomers occurring inland. Pure summer.

The oversized sub-tropical bugs and insects are pretty neat to see too.

My favorite group of the bunch is the giant flying cockroaches…
July is the peak month to see them doing their thing both indoors and outdoors, fueled by the high humidity from the daily storms and heat.

I hear July is peak Mosquito season too down there. Have fun but stay safe JackStraw

Spent 15 straight summers on the beach in longboat key, Fla in June/July. Never encountered any bug issues on the shore. Even got a daily sea breeze. Beautiful cumulo nimbus towers with lightning, rainbows, and fire orange tops. Every now and then a tropical storm to cool it down and bring in some good wave action. Big calls; was lobster or shrimp for dinner? What day do I go deep sea fishing? SPF 6 or 15 on the lotion? Corona or a local beer for sitting on the beach. It sucked alright. All that said, looks like we may get some real summer before the 4th. On cue.

To each their own but meh.

Besides the fresh seafood, I can do everything else right here locally on the shorelines of good ole Lake Michigan June-September. Wisconsin/Michigan/Indiana shores to be exact, IL beaches suck.

Used to spend a couple weeks up near Petoskey and Charlevoix as well every season. Great golf country.

Florida in July? Yuck.

I lived there for over 20 years, over 10 in Charleston SC so I'm well aware, trust me. This isn't vacation, it's family business. Plus I'll have a pool and literally be across the street from the beach so breezes a plenty as opposed to how stifling it can get here in the still air under a heat dome like the one thats incoming. As to "flying cockroaches" someone mentioned? That's the American cockroach. Its really simple to keep them under control. You just let the native lizards live in and around the house. They are the best indoor (and outdoor) bug control I ever had in my over 30 years in the SE. No worries here. Hell, I'm still so acclimated to the SE that I wear a jacket if its under 70 lol. ;)
