This season has a shot at something like that, but always a long shot that late...even if the pattern is favorable. This season is a prime candidate for April snowfall, though.

It was a record breaking year for sure here…but we are talking about the thaw in January lol.  That’s the point.

Absolutely....never disagreed with that. If you look at my composites, February 2018 was one of my main analogs, but my timing was off...so we got it in March.

Point out where I said that...I specifically said this week will drop my grade for the winter by 1 full letter grade..

But then you asked about the January thaw, and perhaps i misinterpreted your post, but you seemed like you were including that into your lower grade idea.  Hard to keep up with what you are including and not including in your lower grade lol.  But whatever.  
 

It’s been an A winter here for sure. if March worked out(assuming we’re done..not so sure on that myself?) it would have been a blockbuster one.

I like April/May 2015 better than February/March 2018 as an analog for this March/April, especially if we're heading towards a stronger el nino/+PDO. The late spring months of 2015 turned warmer (with May being a near record warm month) after a very cold winter/early spring.

Why would this week specifically drop a grade? It’s March, things melt. Deal with it. If you want to at the end of the month, say we had no snow in the grade drops then I could reason with that.

In all seriousness, I would have to consider a crappy March… But around these parts I can’t really argue with two very large snow storms. That itself almost argues an A.

Good question....Prior to the epic stretch the grade was an F...after the epic stretch which includes the cold in March it was an A.....I long ago read about the epic stretch in 1717 and one of my weather bucket list items  was to experience a repeat of 1717...and I sure did!...that raised the grade to an A...just below 95-96...A+ grade...

That one was an easy A in my book. I loved seeing the transformation from a near record cold and snowy February to a near record warm May.

So 5 warm days this March takes a letter grade off of winter, but an F for the entire first half of 14-15 still results in an A at the end.

Yes because of the historic record breaking snowfall...and I explained why in my previous reply to you..I highly doubt any of us will ever experience something like that again during our lifetimes...although I hope we do lol

I don't think I could ever use March to drop a grade, but I could use March to raise a grade. March is too much of a transition month and *typically* the best chances for widespread accumulating snowfall are going to come during the first half of the month versus the second half of the month. Sure March can be cold and snowy but March can also be rather mild. March (to me) is like a stat padding month, hence it can act to boost the grade. But if winter was pretty damn solid going into March and March doesn't deliver...oh well. Not going to let that downgrade what was a fun winter.

Ya, I’m not quite understanding his/that reasoning there either?    As I was thinking,  and as you said as well, we are at the very end now, 4 days of warmth in the second week of March doesn’t drop a grade in my opinion either.  But again..to each their own.

100% agree.   Kind of like having a fantastic summer in every way…but then September gets cool and rainy…would that lower a summer grade?  Not at all in my book. September is supposed to start cooling down anyway(sometimes it doesn’t) ..so same reasoning.
