The February 22-23 Late Season Miracle: JV Disco/Banter Thread

Someone in one of the storm event threads mentioned the St. Pat's storm in March 2014 (I think @yoda did, or maybe it was another March storm he meant?).  While I totally get the concern about temperatures at the start of this upcoming event, I have to think that if we get the rates that the models are indicating, and with still a fair amount occurring late day and overnight, we should still accumulate a decent amount here.  For some perspective, here's how that St. Pat's storm looked at DCA for the week leading into it (date, max temp, min temp, average temp, temp departure, HDD, CDD, precip, snow, snow depth).  Notice how warm it was most of the days before, plus this was ~3 weeks LATER than where we are now.

Anyone chasing? I'm thinking Fenwick Island del. Maybe Atlantic city but I hate cities. I need rural for my chases lol. I'm thinking about 5 miles inland from the beach or ocean front depending on how it plays out. I'm definitely not sitting on my hands through this last event of the season.

I’m toying with the idea but also don’t want to be trapped. Idk. Might just have to suck it up

See that's the problem. I do have a truck but drifting can shut roads. The NJ shore isn't the Tug where they blast through snow like nothing and roads are always fine. Why do we always have to travel? We use to get storms in our area lol

When the big cities around you, and even just 50 miles north or east of you are getting a historic snow, why would you ever care about 6 inches? These opportunities are so rare. Have to find a way to cash in. I’d rather risk getting nothing if it gave me a better chance of a huge hit.

I mean yes, of course I'd love to get into the best stuff here!  Not saying otherwise.  Just that I think expecting some of the crazy amounts that generally have not been shown over the cities (talking DC-Balt corridor) in the guidance...that area is farther east and northeast...is just setting oneself up for disappointment.  If we somehow manage 6-10" or 8-12" here along with what could be some pretty strong winds, that's a win as far as I'm concerned.

Again, I certainly would LOVE to get an historic level amount.  But unless things change today such that all or nearly all guidance shows that, I'm not going to expect it; it would be icing in the cake really.  However, if all or nearly all guidance continues to show a really good warning level event, that would be great.

I like your thinking. Historic or even double digit totals were never really in the cards for the DMV and west. It was shown on maybe 1-2 runs mostly on the gfs. The bulls eye was always constantly east/NE of us.

Go to Cape May! Pretty town, not a city, on a peninsula so you'll get destroyed by wind lol. Easy access to garden state parkway which should be priority to clear

My bar for my backyard is 4" otg.. including roads... Monday am. We'll see. Not the 36" I was promised LOL

Yup, exactly.  We're not getting the crazy totals here in the DMV.  I don't get the "disappointment" from some at models consistently showing around 6" or even a bit more around here, just because PHL-BOS might get 2 feet.  Who cares, as long as we can do well, at least that's my feeling.

I didn’t even see this thread. Thanks for all the well wishes. I am feeling better mostly. Had a high fever but that’s gone now, still have some pain in my abdomen but it’s much less than it was. Been on antibiotics, Tylenol, and pain meds. Waiting for a doctor to come in to discuss game plan. I wanna go home lol.

Hard core, tracking and posting from the hospital :D Hope you're discharged soon and no further issues.

Those of you who like gambling need to get in on predictive markets. I saw that writing on the wall yesterday morning that the storm was going to be a nj-boston special. I put down $10, that Boston would see more than 20 in this month, and now I can cash out for $25 before the storm even happens lol. Free money if you obsessively track models... And can tolerate a little bit of risk:arrrg:
