Twin Cities under a WWA for 2-4” of snow today. The model trends have been in my favor for wrap around snowfall. Temps are already falling through the 30s

Steady mod rains since 6am, I already see a glaze on roads and higher surfaces despite it being near 1C/33F. I hope WUN is correct with lower precip and stoppage at 2pm. There was a brief flicker 2 hr ago. I turned the heat way up.

LP looks to be occluding atm, so that will shutoff the heavy feed of moisture coming in from the S. The Lake is enhancing what is coming tho, so hopefully will maintain a steady SN throughout the day. Winds should start to back off as well as LP gets closer, and the gradient weakens. Gusts are down some from earlier.

They get higher winds down there in DLH along Park Point, and up at the arpt more regularly. Wind funnels a bit in that narrower section of the Lake. Here in town, they are not that high, although, if there were an anemometer down at Burlington Bay here in town, probably would get similar readings. BTW, just heard that Hwy 61 along the entire shore has been closed all morning. Whiteout conditions.

Snow has lessened some from +SN to SN, but wind gusts have increased again up to 45. Vis has improved, except on the stronger gusts. 

 

EDIT: another wave of +SN moves in to bring whiteout conditions.

14.7" imby as of 3 pm. -SN with decreasing winds atm. Still could be few inches more later, but we shall see how things evolve. Shouldn't be a lot more.

Pure rippage. Airport is reporting 2.4” at 6pm but the NWS office measured 4.2” I’m eyeballing 3-4” imby under heavy snow.

It was insane. Temps briefly skyrocketed to 65 at DTW before falling back to the low 40s. I am 7 miles east of DTW and maxed at 56. Detroit City airport maxed at 45. 

High of 65 at DTW and 45 at DET? Ive never seen anything so wild. Hypothetically, if the two stations finished with an otherwise identical monthly mean temp, today's front would single handedly make DTW a few tenths of a degree warmer for the month than DET. 

All the snow has melted, though there are plenty of cookies n cream piles in parking lots and such, its that depressing time of getting used to grass after looking at snowcover for a long time.

Earlier today, this wide-ranging storm system was strung out WNW-ESE across the continent. It's pulling itself apart.

Strange U-shaped snow forecast coming up for tomorrow. Also note: the Sierra Nevada is going to get a precipitation total of about 6" (60"+ of snowfall) out of this multi-day weather event.

On January 14th we had a 30%-50% chance of snow showers, expecting a dusting, and ended up with 6.2" of snow by the morning of the 15th.
