Anyone taking bets on how many areas get close to or below zero tonight? This is about as clear as you can get for many locations (beautiful day), plus not much in the way of wind outside of the mtns and coast, especially once the sun drops

I measured 0.75” on a table last night after it stopped, and it was similar for the average on leaves and grass. This was just enough to make it look like a beautiful white carpet on the grassy areas. The last burst (during 10-11PM) was a real nice icing on the cake as before it was ~0.5” on that same table as of 8PM.

I feel fortunate to have gotten this much as just a few miles south it accumulated much less.

So, this makes it official that SAV got measurable snow in 2 consecutive calendar years for the first time since way back in 1917-8 (0.1” on 12/30/1917 and 0.5” on 1/2/1918…so those were only 3 days apart). Interestingly though, since then SAV has had 2 measurable snows in the same winter twice (1976-7 and 1985-6) and also has had measurable in consecutive winters one time (both in 1989).

The Airport also measured 0.5”. All in all, it was a nice outcome for Savannah.

Kept saying that all night.

Cue 'damn it feels good to be a gangster...' from Office Space

Kinda surprising, but kinda not given the depth of the cold air atw to the coast in SE NC....Crystal Coast and Brunswick County are the only S facing Atlantic coastlines south of Long Island.....precip flow was off the ocean last night.  At OKI we get our worst thunderstorms off Onslow Bay to the south, and even a high end tropical storm or CAT 1 with a landfall around NMB/Little River can give us an 8-10' storm surge (Isiais and Matthew most recently) because of the right (perpendicular to flow) angle, shallow water at the mouth of the Cape Fear and enhanced rainfall.  I have seen what resembles an 8' tidal bore with a strong north wind and a big runoff from recent heavy rains on the river when the tide changes during the winter (river water is ass-.nasty, btw)...

I always wondered how it would play out during a winter storm with the right amount of cold air....guess I finally have my answer

My neighbor at Oak Island sent me a pic of my house from this morning....he said around 8"+

I will probably never see 11 inches of snow in my lifetime. Was ecstatic to exceed expectations last night.

We did drunken sledding down some steep hills during the peak of it. Will carry those memories for the rest of my life.
