WinterWolf
2 hours ago, ORH_wxman said: Longitude obv plays a role too. New England is unique in that it sticks out into the Atlantic. So eastern areas have easier access to a large moisture source to their south and east. But latitude def matters too. But I’d agree in the monsters that longitude might be more important. In the 14-15 season, and in the January ‘22 storm it was all longitudinal. Latitude can and does matter in marginal situations for sure, but for those set ups as you agreed, it was longitude. I mean in the past 4-5 sucky years we’ve done better here with several systems that sucked out east…so it has its ups and downs as does anywhere. Dont forget your favorite storm, Feb 2021. However, neither of those two you listed were historic (18"+) for S/SW CT, like you guys get consistently with Jan 22, Jan 15, Feb 15 etc with those crazy 18-30+ numbers. Both those storms may have sucked in E MA but they werent historic level storms either around here.
EastonSN+
Best one was the blizzard of 96 (27) followed by NEMO (22) and then February 2006 (20.5). The only 3 20 plus snowstorms in my life.

Yes, We’ve had our good breaks compared to SEMA on some of these 12 to 16 inches which of course is no complaint but I would much rather be in their shoes where those memorable snows that, we’d tell our grandchildren about, happen more frequently. Came home late on the 31st.

Just to amend, I moved from Norwalk to Easton in September of 2014. 2013 would have been over 30 here but was in Norwalk and had 22.

I was missing my home turf in Bristol for that one. We did fine here in Springfield with 18-19 but it was much more dramatic with rates and Thunder down there

40/70 Benchmark
Beyond tonight's light snowfall that is now underway, a big storm this weekend is unlikely, however, that does not necessarily mean no snow whatsoever. More on that later this week if necessary. Some disagreement concerning a warm up next week, but I happen to be on the somewhat warm train for reasons discussed. Now the question that begs to be asked...is winter done? I do not think so, but I do believe that the harsh arctic air is done. https://easternmassweather.blogspot.com/2026/02/close-call-presidents-day-with-warm-up.html
