Freezing rain in the Valentine's storm from many years ago totally killed several beautiful evergreen trees I had, believe I measured 14 inches of snow and then hours and hours of sleet and then freezing rain. Extreme branch damage occurred. Ugh. I feel bad your area is under the darker colors. However, upstream from you in my area we look to go to freezing rain but not as much. If I lose power this is my freezer lol 4

Kmlwx
I only have some limited video with a very bad quality camcorder I took during the Feb 2007 storm. But this is wild the amount of sleet pouring out of the sky. At my high of the day at 22.5 and it's been creeping up. I am NOT expecting to touch/exceed 32 but still worth monitoring. Let's hope this stays IP and doesn't go to ZR... Crazy stuff out there - even if it wasn't a "clean" snowstorm for us - the science nerd in me is fascinated by this type of storm. It's rare! Usually sleet is just a stop in the transition to rain for us. Seldom do we just dump sleet for hours on end like this. Arctic airmass doing arctic airmass things! 2

It’s actually not so bad! We are near 30 and the wind is calm. Only took ~5 minutes to clear my city ordinance 2 foot path. I was way more bundled earlier when it was blowing snow in the low teens, fear not!

Temp has popped up to warmest in last 24 hours at 16.1/13.0 at 3:15 pm. NWS lowered my forecasted 27 high at 7 am to 22 at noon and I likely won't make that either. And the sleet is back, pretty good timing watching the radar for a restart time.

stormtracker
Look. Nobody wanted sleet. But I mean if we’re going to do it, it should be like this. 16

Scraff
Little snow/sleet happy hour with a few neighbors before the AFC game. Whistle Pig 6 Yr. Sono 1420 Blaze Cinnamon Whiskey. RAK DIPA. Third Hill Hazy IPA. That was definitely fun. Was pouring sleet, not a complaint though. Everyone looked to me and asked when are we getting a clean pow bomb. Ummmm. I said soon maybe???

arlwx12
Outside my window in Arlington VA, ice pellets are starting to stick to the topside of branches. This may suggest they were partially melted, and refroze on contact. Something is STILL falling, and I think it all got to be a bit much for those trying to clear the path from their front door for the first time today. Visibility is better, but still not great. I just checked the NWS website that is reporting 1.25 mile visibility at DCA.

So the ice won’t have that to cling to and add extra weight. Looking at the outdoor cams on my house in Clarksburg, all the trees and deck rails and things like that that were covered in snow have been sandblasted free of anything by the sleet. First pic is 8:20am with 6 inches of snow on the ground. Second pic is now with another 2 inches of sleet. Temp is 12°F in the first and 17°F in the second.

Terrapinwx
Temperature really climbing now. Was 21 at 2:40 but up to 27 now. Still mostly sleet but freezing rain is mixing in. Can’t see it falling but everything is beginning to get a glaze. Models had the temp crashing as the backside moves through, hoping that turns back to sleet instead of becoming all freezing rain. winter_warlock
This storm reminds me of a storm. In 1994 that started as snow but then changed to sleet and I got like 5 inches of sleet on top of 6 inches of snow. Was wild!!!!
