It is historic in and of itself, really

Boston has a chance to clear a top 10 storm for them, Boston to NYC could clear 3-4 inches of sleet when its all said and done, Crippling ice from Viriginia to Texas - very memorable storm overall.

Pictures out of Oxford, MS are insane...

Charlottesville is one of the prettiest places in the snow.

Ultimately I'm glad I stayed down here for the storm. Though I am jelous of the people (including my family) who got 5 inches of snow and then 2 inches of sleet instead of 2 inches of snow and 3-4 inches of sleet. Also I look to get dryslotted for a bit but the convective sleet showers beforehand mean business.

Need some advice. I shoveled after the snow. Now I have a few inches of sleet. Do you think I should clear that and then do once more later, or just wait until it’s all finished? It’s the risk of freezing rain to end it that idk. The idea of clearing the sidewalk just before the freezing rain turns it into a skating rink sounds awful, but the freezing rain making the sleet brutal to move also sounds bad.

The person in cockeysville must have been measuring on top of the snow from last week.

I was just going to ask about it because that would be a jackpot if true. But I’m very skeptical. Is there anyone close to that area who can verify if the snow continued much beyond 10am?

Yeah you missed the good dumping we had overnight up around here, but it wasn't too starkly different.  I remember the last time I was at UVA I was visiting my buddy and there was also a massive snow/sleet storm.  Cville is good at sleet.

Honestly, this storm is so unique that it's been fun to experience. I'm not at all sad that it's a snow/ice event. We don't get these kind of setups too often.

Ultimately that’s how I felt about February 2007. This seems similar except with a bit more snow. And the best part is it that this is just the beginning of a very memorable deep freeze.

And of course this broke the years-long stretch of not having a 6”+ storm in Baltimore and slightly north. I don’t think this is the last of it. Hopefully we’ve turned a corner.

My deck was a low measurement spot when it was snowing due to occlusion of possible accumulating snow and is now way way way over with the sleet - I am between two rooftop decks with a non rooftop one so their sleet and my roof’s sleet just funnels down to mine as it bounces around and finds a low point. There are places pushing 10 inches deep lol.

If I had to describe walking on this, it’s like a layer of granulated sugar over everything

Later it will glaciate. Then you have to be very careful walking on it.

Made 7 inches in Towson before the flip, and it's been pouring sleet basically ever since.

I haven't bothered measuring the sleet, but I shoveled the driveway right before the flip and there's at least 2 inches of compacted sleet now back covering it.

One thing I will say about this high volume of sleet - it can be misleading. The weight means it isn't piling up on deck railings and other typical spots we are used to eyeballing to get a sense of rough snow depth - but it IS piling up in some weird places. I have some snow/sleet "drifts" just off my back porch that are well over a foot deep. Higher than my tall boots - and ask me how I found THAT out.

Yeah it’s tricky to measure. It’s forming pyramids in my deck furniture. Best place to measure it honestly is probably the yard or sidewalk after it was cleared
