Congrats! I did my lifetime alcohol consumption between 16 and 21. Lucky I'm still here. I have no issues with folks drinking (long as they stay away from the wheel after), I just don't want to chance going down that road, so I made the decision to not drink again.

Awesome. I am hammered right now. :) I control the demon by only drinking on Thursdays and Saturdays. Not lying. Thats how I do it.

I like to look back at old storm pics. Here's one from the 2016 storm looking out late at night.

Best storm ever here. No lie. But what a shitty winter overall it was. I think people will be shocked how long whatever falls sticks around with this one. There is about to be some 80's type winter stuff going on. 6-8 weeks of frozen cover will change a whole bunch of peoples minds about what is fun and isnt.

Gray slushy roads for the foreseeable future, yay!

Actually for the next 2 or 3 weeks the back roads wont be slushy at all. They will be a frozen bumpy mess of solid ice. Youngins have never experienced whats about to happen.

Oh yeah, non-salted/sanded roads will be rough/impassable. Definitely want to get all your essentials by Saturday midday.

Gonna be those hard icy patches in parking lots that almost take you out long after this storm

It is kind of crazy to think there are prob people on this forum who were too young to remember this area's last legit snowstorm...

You better already have them. I stopped to get a couple things I didn't need tonight and the grocery store shelves were barren... like apocalyptic... and lines were from the registers all the way to the back of the store.

I've never lived out in food desert-y areas, I guess. I stopped at a grocery store in DC to pick up hot chocolate supplies (college, so other food is hopefully taken care of) and it was completely stocked

We talked about this at the get together in Rockville. Haven't had a drink since 2017. I thought I would miss it because beers and bourbon were central to my social life and end day of stress relief. Nope, don't miss it at all. I'm the same person without the extra weight, unproductive time, and more money in my wallet lol. Probably the best decision of my 40s. I enjoy going out to bars or wherever with friends just as much and laugh DD'ing on the way home. NA beers have come a long way and actually taste really good too! Haha

Haha. I posted a few pages back about my journey to the grocery store today. It was utter madness.

I just arrived at the cabin out near DCL.  It's very windy and 24F here at 3k ft.  How we looking for snow totals out here for this?   I'm trying to hatch a plan so I can convince my wife not to make us drive home early Sunday morning.  How bout if I manage to get us to sleep on Sunday morning til like 9am, will the snow then be too heavy so I can convince her it's too dangerous to drive back to Calvert?

Jealous. You are going to get completely mauled brother. I think I will get enough to make it not worth chasing.

I'm actually a bit annoyed because I was up there last weekend. Don't get me wrong - it was great. Cold, saw 4-5" of snow fall. Kids got to play in that sweet cold powder they get up there... but DAMNIT what I would give to have planned it one weekend later! :weep:

@mappyisn't paid enough (or at all) by @stormtrackerto deal with the drama over there :)

I wish I could pay her.  She deals with a lot of shit.  Sexist, shitty comments (people calling her board mom when they get moderated) and usually trying to snipe her when they don't do it to male mods.   She's a trooper and a good mod who actually cares about this place.    I'm sending her a bonus after this winter...a few 7-11 coupon deals and a jelly of the month club membership.

I know, right?!?!  Hell, I grew up in northeast Ohio in the '70s and '80s and recall the record bitter cold winter of 1976-77.  Temp in Cleveland was below freezing from the last part of December through the first week of February.  Dinosaurs froze up on the roads, for those families well off enough to have a dinosaur for transportation.  It was an icy walk to school uphill both ways!!   (But in all seriousness, that was an incredible winter and extreme cold over the entire eastern US.  That and the following one, 1977-78!).

But a wild card here and maybe why the GFS MIGHT score a coup in the ne (was like PSU almost beating Indiana) is how cold the water is off the east coast. May retard warming a tad NJ north

I've got people up in Detroit that might help by driving down trucks of frozen lake water and dumping it along the Chesapeake.

Amen. Mappy is awesome. Been here since the beginning. And she has tolerated a whole bunch of childish bullshit from me.
