Oh no! 12-18 inches of snow before we worry about sleet on top? awful! We need to go back to the happier runs where we smoked cirrus- that was totally better…

FORFUCKSAKE PEOPLE

I would take tonight's runs in a heartbeat. The problem is...worry about the future ones. Blip or trend? There's fear of the future ones continuing further and further north.

Maybe stop worrying about what you literally can’t control?

we’ve been dying for a moisture laden bomb into cold air for a decade. Just roll the dice and hope for the best. This beats the hell out of hoping to squeeze a warning level snow out of .3” qpf from a weak low sliding off the coast and watching the northern edge get eaten by dry air.

I mean, jeebus everyone.

We haven't had a storm like this in a decade. And people are flipping out about some taint on top of over a foot of snow? Which is then followed by sub freezing temps for 2 weeks. I honestly don't get it. The synoptic setup alone has me weenieing out man. We are going to get absolutely mauled during the daylight hours on Sunday While watching the NFL Championship games. Absolute perfection for me.

When are we doing a Martins/Costco run?

Obviously this is a very anomalous event, so maybe the usual rules don’t apply. But I’m keeping some otherwise very durable seasonal and La Niña patterns in my mind: short-term deamplification, suppressing SE ridge, destructive interference from the northern jet, and drier reality than modeled.

Did you just cancel the storm

This is going to be the biggest snowstorm in a decade, and the consensus for a major to historic storm is robust.

Also, you’ve been around long enough to see what other storms in the past 25 years have done. Know your climo and enjoy.

Do we still want to do a meet-up on Friday afternoon/evening?

It got buried a bit, but folks are meeting at Succotash starting around 5pm on Thursday. I’m jotting down names and I’ll pass along my number in a group chat once we get a few. If folks are interested, LMK. I work very close and will get us a table in the upstairs bar zone.

Do you have a location for that?

Just to address all the people who are saying that people are crazy for fussing about getting sleet on top of a bunch of snow...

For me, it's not about how long the snowpack sticks around. It's as much to do with the feeling of serenity and quiet and just sheer awesomeness of snow falling than anything else. Pouring sleet, while a neat meteorological phenomenon, is like enjoying the outdoors at a national park and then suddenly some dickwad in a souped-up F150 rolls up out of the forest blasting Kid Rock. No thanks, and fuck all that.

Beautifully worded and my thoughts as well lol. I actually rather have a clean 6 incher than a 12 incher with pounding annoying sleet all day.

lol this place is never happy

Comparison is the thief of joy and in a vacuum we'd all be happy with the (current) modeled outcomes, but surprised you can't appreciate why someone in SoMD wouldn't be as happy as you might be right now. I think we'll all be fine but some folks are more on the edge here for totally understandable reasons.
