Just ooze a bit this way…

Ended up hiking Billy Goat this morning (first time in a while). My drive home would have been a disaster if I hadn’t brought another shirt to wear. Looks like I went at the right time because the 270 split microclimate is cranking again.

Also, have heard some decent thunder in the last few mins, but looks like that cell might stay to the north.

We heard that down here as well. Had no idea anything was even out there. Here it is from my back deck looking N.

Yeah they aren't moving much at all.

The thunder is intense...at least it cooled it off here even if it doesn't rain

2.45" so far in just under an hour.  It was pouring for a while.  Was outside when it started and thunder was nearly continuous.  The first drops were like globules, akin to snow parachutes in winter.  Was nearly stationary over Reston and Vienna as it blew up.

Storm stayed just to the northeast. Sun is popping back out again. Onto tomorrow…

Absolutely no relief in sight with this humidity. 

If anything I say more chances for heavy rainfall in the weeks ahead.

another day of dews 75-80F.  Just unreal.

The day 1-7 qpf forecast looks almost exactly like it did for last week...... when I got a grand total of 0.20.  Better luck this time!

WPC once again ramping up rainfall totals. 

This morning not only is there the oppressive humidity but a fine mist in the air almost like a tropical rainforest.

Raining here currently. This was not forecasted. Totally wet on the walk.

Washed the beach salt off my car this morning and boy was it soupy out. Glad the sun wasn't shining or I might be passed out on the pavement.

Very impressive heat across the region so far this summer. As we approach the midpoint of summer, it's clear 2025 has not disappointed for summer weather lovers. Back-to-back scorchers areawide. Might never see such extremes in two consecutive summers ever again... certainly, an impressive statistical anomaly!

Some notable observations:

Elkins, West Virginia has had its warmest start to summer on record, by a large margin, with 2024 dropping into 4th place.

Hagerstown, Maryland has seen its 3rd warmest start to the season, behind 2010 & 2024. What a 1-2 punch with back to back scorchers in 2024 & 2025.

Roanoke, Virginia has seen its 4th warmest start to the season, behind 2024, 2010 & 1925.

Clarksburg, West Virginia has seen its 2nd warmest start to summer, behind only 1934's Dust Bowl aided heat.

3rd warmest at Huntington, W. Va. Easily the hottest at the current airport location.

2nd warmest at Beckley, W. Va., with 2024 in a close third.

Zooming in over Baltimore and Washington.

In the official Baltimore thread, 2025 currently sits in 8th place. I do question the thought process of grafting on some of these rooftop Customs House readings, rather than including them in the downtown Baltimore thread.

Speaking of downtown, currently in 2nd place (since 1950).

IAD is checking in at 4th place summer to date.

DCA is mired in an unimpressive 11th place. In fact, according to these rankings, 8 summers had as warm or warmer start just since 2010.

Richmond, Virginia currently sits in 6th place, tied with 2008.

This is A LOT of territory seeing a top 10 hottest summer, even top 5 hottest in many locations. These are only showing long term ThreadEx sites. Wow! You can definitely see West Virginia has been ground zero for the heat this season.
