Difference here is this is multiple flares… there are 3 coming. Tonight is the first and second, which might have essentially merged. Tomorrow is the third, which is also the stronger one. I definitely went out tonight because I didn’t want to count on a two-night feature, but real chance tomorrow as well.

Took a quick look 10 mins ago and was easy to see with naked eyes. 4 second exposure on this pic so obviously enhanced lol but I could see the red thru the branches with my eyes as well. Thought about running down to the lake for a big horizon pic but man it's windy and cold. Maybe tomorrow.

My current plan is to roll out before/during sunset and drive north. Hoping the traffic isn’t heinous.

Is tonight's supposed to be a little stronger? I might try to head over to Rock Creek Park where at least it's not sooooo bright.  Perhaps on the golf course I could find a spot with a view of the northern sky.

I would say potentially yes - the prior two may have "cleared the way" for this one. However, if it arrives too early it might not be well-timed with daylight/night.

The good news to keep in mind is when May 2024 occurred it was a midday hit and persisted well into the night.  So all is not lost if that is the case, especially since the days are short now.

Looks like we're on track for an impact in the next few hours. At this point, I don't think we need to worry about it being too early. More worried about a glancing blow. 

Undecided on if I go north/east/west tonight. Will probably look at the clouds and drive somewhere around sunset. Might base it on traffic lol

As a photographer enthusiast all you really need is 1. Tripod 2. 10 second shutter 3. Lowest f stop possible lens (2.8 is good) 4. 1600-3200 iso 5. preemptively use manual focus on a distant light to ensure your focus is good! Happy photographing!
