Happy New Year all! 2023 was certainly an historic year on the weather front. Here are some characteristic statistics from Chicago for the year.

The annual mean temperature of 54.0F, was the third highest in the threaded records, behind 2012 and 1921. Not shown, but the mean maximum temperature of 62.4F was second warmest on record behind 2012, and the mean minimum temperature of 45.7F was third warmest on record behind 1921 and 1931.

Precipitation totaled 33.73 inches, just a bit drier than the median [71st driest of 153 years].

Snowfall for the calendar year totaled 19.8 inches, tying 1902 for the 9th least snowfall in a calendar year. Of note, 6 of the 11 least snowy calendar years have occurred within the past 23 years (2006, is 11th).

BTW, I'm assuming we no longer have a troll issue. That will be so nice.

I missed that.  Is he gone?

Yes for now, me and a few others are watching to make sure it stays that way.

No, and stop going to bat for the worst of the worst, Christ.

I dont spend a lot of time on the boards here now that I moved out of region, but why was he a troll? I remember his posts and they seemed to be not wanting snow or cold, just curious as to why that is a problem? Probably a lot I missed, I guess...

I can pretty much assure you the 2nd half of January will be ripping for this subform, it always happens right as I leave, I get 2-3 weeks of clouds and mid 30s while I am up for Christmas, then big snows the day I leave, or just after. I leave jan 11, btw, so expect an uptick then

I cannot get over how little cold air there is on the backside of some pretty dynamic systems here in the upcoming days. Is it really that hard to get a high pressure on the backside of either of these events like normal to create a legitimate swath of snow?

Raw, damp day today. Getting light rain, snow and sleet.

Not fun outside here in SEMI even noticed a light glaze on tree limbs while I’m working. Shows the lightest light of shades on RadarScope.
