I've been a snow lover since childhood in the 1950's. Regardless of my IMBY outcome, my wife of 45 years and I are hunkered down tonight in eastern Monmouth Co, and enjoying every bit of this event thus far; wood fire, good music, good drinks, all is well!

Just wanted to thank a couple posters for the ride this week before the blush of the event has passed.....

First, MJO812 Met Fan,  I've never met or come in contact with another individual feeling the same way I do about snow. I got your back no matter what you post!

And then wdrag.... I'm a professional engineer of of over 40 years and about to retire and admire you carrying your knowledge beyond your professional requirements to all of us...thank you!

Happy Holidays to all!!

I can only think of one time where NYC got a 10" storm in December and did not get another snowstorm almost equal or bigger...one of 20 times?...

do you have snowfall totals for our official reporting stations?  My favorite part of this event was between 3:30 am and 7 am when the temps plummeted and we had near white out conditions with heavy snow and high winds here....didn't expect that at all.

Just my thought after getting a really nice night's sleep after not checking the boards since last night and waking up to a nice snow (Granted, not the outrageous amounts forecasted, but I think from reading here, we kinda knew that would occur in the back of our minds):

This is the kind of storm we would have really enjoyed and hoped for as kids, but we’ve been spoiled so much in the the last 25 years and have been conditioned to frown upon and be disappointed with 8 to 12 of fast-accumulating snow with sleet and howling winds, ending with snow swirling in bitter cold. And a week before Christmas to boot!

P.S. I'm guessing we got somewhere in the 8-12 range here in MMU; the winds are making it difficult to gauge. Many rooves are clean this morning.

I haven't been 140 pounds since 1979.....

2003 I weighed 205 pounds by mid 2004 I was 140. Typical man, I thought nothing of it and just kept tightening the belt. My lost love said your going to the Doctor. I said no and that’s final. I, like Ralph Kramer, am the king of my Italian castle. So I went immediately. My primary care physician thought the bucket and my foot were about to meet. ( he told me this tidbit later ) set me up for every test/scan there was and told my love to make sure the personal affairs were in order,  I am still here at 140lbs sixteen years later, still missing what was best in my life, my lost love.  Today is her birthday. She would have been 68. My comfort today is to gaze at my postage stamp, dressed in white and imagine the  briefest  touch of soft lips on my cheek. As always ....

Sorry. I know your pain as my deceased bride would have also turned 68 back in August. Sad it's over, but glad it happened.  Didn't have your level of weight loss but did lose 20 lbs in one week at 19.  Comfortable being in mid to upper 140s.

I loved that storm. I’ll take 10” a week before Christmas any year over stressing whether we have an inch on the ground on 12/25. The city is magical right now. We haven’t had a snowfall with staying power like this in a long time. And in December?

winters where we get a sizable amount of snow in December are also usually long snowcover winters- 1947-48, 1995-96 and 2010-11 being cases in point.  1995-96 had a big thaw but then it got right back to snowing lol.

First off, don't act like there wasn't a lot of trash ass music during your supposed "golden" days. There's always been bad music.

Popular music is the byproduct of culture. Culture changes as you get older. The culture that affects you the most comes from your youth. The older you are the less you're likely going to identify with what is new. That doesn't mean it's bad, it means you're old. You don't identify with the music. That's fine, but don't confuse the two.

"Music today sucks" is a brain dead comment.

okay then let's find a logical reason for why music has gotten worse with time....commercialism.  It isn't just music that's been degraded it's many other facets of life.  Let's face it, we live in a time when instant gratification results in a poor diet, where half of Americans have become obese (this started around 2000) and thats when the diabetes epidemic started, chiefly because of the consumption of convenient processed food.  This era of "convenience" has bled into other facets of life generally degrading quality of life while increasing costs.  Music is just a reflection of that new reality.  And a lot of youth are rebelling against this new commercial reality.  You completely forgot about the comment where a poster mentioned that his own children and their friends prefer music from the 80s.  That's right in line with what I've seen too.  It has nothing to do with one's age but with a measurable lowering of the quality of life.

Dude you are entitled to your opinion but I stand by my comment. The amazing talent of the bands and artists that I and others mentioned is far superior than the auto-tune garbage of many "artists" of today.

He also completely ignored the fact that so many of our youth gravitate towards older music.  The Beatles are still considered the greatest rock band of all time.  Find me a young group today that is anywhere near how great they were or Led Zeppelin or Queen for that matter.  This isn't just an "opinion" it's a measurable matter of fact.  What separates great music from rank commercialism is that the former tells a story and if you take the music away, the words still matter, they read like poetry written by some of our greatest writers.  To not notice the general degradation of society, and how that's reflected in music, is to bury one's head in the sand.  Facts are facts.....the new generation is angry because they know that their prospects for a better life are not as good as the previous generation's were and they have every right to be angry.  You get less quality for the same amount of money, or even worse, lower quality that also costs more.  There are multiple reasons for this, but corporatism, commercialism, etc., are all part of it.
