IsentropicLift
I have never heard anyone in NJ or NY inform them have low property taxes. How someone with a $550K has low property taxes is odd. I consider low property taxes around 2K a year. Best It's relative to location. I live in a county which has some of the lowest property taxes in the tri-state area. By crossing over the river into Passaic County taxes go up 40% on average, but they are still much lower than most places in NY.

I've been to Morris County and I have family on Long Island, the only difference I see between those two is that Morris County isn't an island so there are more ways to get away quicker. Taxes are higher in NY State, it's just a fact. The taxes are 40% higher in Orange County than in Morris County, and for no apparent reasons. The same thing can be said about Passaic and Bergen Counties.

Brian5671
I have never heard anyone in NJ or NY inform them have low property taxes. Most people use terms outrageous or another term. How someone with a $550K has low property taxes is odd. I consider low property taxes around 2K a year. Best I think he's using it in a relative term. Same thing can be said about CT-taxes are lower than NJ or NY, but it's relative. If you compare CT to TN or NC, our taxes are ridiculously high. UnionWeatherWx
It's always a smart thing to work in NYC (depending on how much your job pays you) and live in suburban or rural NJ. You will probably end up saving money. imo its a profit.

nzucker
Taxes are really high in all the NYC metro area, whether it be NJ, NY, or CT. I think my parents pay approximately $6000/yr on a house worth around 250k with 0.14 acres land in southern Westchester. Pretty ridiculous. They own a five bedroom vacation house on an acre of land in rural PA, and the taxes are a fraction of those paid in Westchester despite the larger house and property. Sundog
Those property tax lists don't take into account how much land and the type of structure you're buying, which both contribute to your bill. There's properties in Queens around here that have 6000 dollar property tax bills for a piece of land 40 by 100 feet. I'd rather see the price per square foot. Those expensive counties have high property taxes because they're nice areas. Did you guys see the list of lowest property tax locales? I'd rather live in and rent a garage in NYC than live on 10 acres of land in some of those places.

bluewave
This will be remembered as the summer of man-o- wars and shark attacks for the East Coast. It looks like the kids taken to the hospital after being stung on Fire Island were ok after treatment. Most likely related to the shifts in the Gulf Stream with the AMO decline and the cold horseshoe of Atlantic SST's around warmer just off the East Coast. http://www.newsday.com/long-island/suffolk/portuguese-man-of-war-wash-up-on-fire-island-sting-2-kids-officials-say-1.10618339 http://thesandpaper.villagesoup.com/p/man-o-wars-strike-long-beach-island-once-more/1372207 http://myfox8.com/2015/07/06/eighth-shark-attack-in-nc-reported-in-surf-city/ You can see the dramatic reversal in the NATL SST profile since 2012
