More SN than IP at the moment. Absolutely huge flakes just poring down.

Nice!  Just IP here at the moment, but I'm on the lookout! ;)

Looks to be a few more heavy bands to our south east yet to come through

The deformation band should set up and hammer us through dawn, IMO.  It should be fun, especially if you can manage to stay mostly snow.

BTW, that sucks about losing power, jburns.  It must be a real mess down that way if it's all liquid falling, especially now with surface temperatures starting to dip into the upper 20s.

I'd say the predominant P-type is sleet, but there's definitely some freezing rain in there, too, as I notice more of a glaze on the trees, etc. than before.  The grass, the road, etc. is basically a 1"+ glacier at the moment.  Cool looking.  I've still got power, thankfully.

Yes, you can have a major ice storm in March!

Jamestown, NC a heavy mess is falling. Power just flickered. Stepped outside an could hear trees popping

Yeah, these flakes are crazy.  It's just huge globs of stuff, LOL!  I'm not sure I've seen such massive flakes as these before.  Of course, these heavy, wet flakes will only exasperate our power issues if they continue.

Yeah, there's still a few flakes mixing in here, but it's pretty much back to IP (mixed with ZR, probably).  It makes you wonder if we can do a full changeover if we really get some heavy rates as rates really aren't overly impressive at the moment.

I'm not sure how much ice accretion we have, but it looks like quite a bit.  I'd have to think we have at least warning criteria (0.25") and maybe more than that.

EDIT: Damn, just had another power flicker and now the streetlights are dark.

was a big flop in buncombe county started off snowing good yesterday and went to a mix of rain and snow and is mostly rain now.  got absolutely nothing.  schools aren't even on a delay.

Yep, a big fail for Asheville.... looks like the deformation band set up just to the south. Could have been a huge snow if that 50+ dBz had has been right overhead.

On the other hand... those in upstate SC might be waking up to a surprise mix where they probably wouldn't expecting much. CC showed the rain/mix line crash southward as this deformation band really got cranking!
